I dont know how I feel about this... I needed his attention during my delivery not him telling everyone what was going on... there was plenty for him to do for me. He wasnt sitting there watching TV or being bored!

I think it's awesome. The women I know who have given birth appreciated the moral support, but didn't honestly need the "help" of the father.

2 women I know who had babies this year were the ones on Facebook while laboring. Both were inductions with epidurals from the start, so a minimum amount of pain involved, but I still can't imagine. My SIL was texting, emailing, etc. from her phone and we actually have a photo were she fell asleep typing on her phone. Other friend changed her Facebook status (as did her husband) each time she progressed. So i knew exactly when the epi went in, when she started dilating, when she was ready to push, etc. It was honestly a little freaky both times.
And me, I can't imagine wanting to do any of that while in labor! I had one kid with an epi so I wasn't in excruciating pain after that, but still had no desire to pull out the laptop. |

I don't care what new technology is out. There is NO freaking way that sending a message to anyone is more important then the here and now of your child being born. No way would that fly with either of us.
I can see it now, looking back and what do they recall, their husband looking down at his phone/PC, no thanks! So impersonal and so removed. So sad really. |

Maybe with the epidural I wouldn't have minded him doing it but no way in hell was he able to do it during my last delivery! Transition is a witch I need him to fan me because I was so hot even with the air turned down to 60. He was able to text everyone 5 min after Anthony was born and in my arms. The updates wouldn't have been that exciting any way.

Now this is a bit too much! The modern age has to have it's limit. I think this would be it!

I guess I am just old fashion, but I think sometimes you need to turn off the technology and focus on each other.

When laboring with DD, her father who was rarely off his cell phone, was standing outside the room gabbing away when my midwife came to check on me. She took his phone away and told him if he wanted to be there he should BE THERE and if not, he could wait in another part of the hospital
She really tore him a new one and he was mortified. I felt a little bad for him (although his constant need to be in contact with EVERYONE at all times drove me crazy) until I realized he was making arrangements to go to a Bruins game that night I loved my midwife

Last night my sister and I were sitting in the den and I said to her, "I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle to keep me alive. That would be no quality of life at all. If that ever happens, just pull the plug!" So she got up, unplugged the computer, and threw out my wine.

I was in "labor" with DD for 26 hours. I had an epi and was completely out of pain. I could have tweeted, Fbed..whatever. It was 6 1/2 years ago so that stuff not in fashion yet. However, the whole tweeting, status update gives me evidence to support my theory that these are not social networking sites but are really 21st century outlets for narcissism. I think there is more networking going on with discussion boards.
