Losing eye contacts at the waterparks

Has this ever happened to anyone? I am so afraid of losing my contacts on
the water rides. Which ones should I avoid? Going through waterfalls usually does it. Any hints?

Do you have glasses you can wear to the waterparks? Can you see okay without them? I wear contacts and cannot see without them in, so I understand if you cannot.

Maybe you can take a back-up set with you to WDW just in case.

I would think all water activities would put you at risk for having yours contacts washed out of your eyes.

I have contacts that are $300/pair (I hate them) so I have to be really careful. I used to not wear them at all and my eyes are really bad but I still did fine. On my last trip, I wore them but just closed my eyes anytime I was at risk of getting them wet.

I wear goggles just to help my eyes feel safer!

So far, so good! I don't worry too much because mine are cheap disposables. I always bring extra on vacation

I can't see a thing without my contacts/glasses on and this is always a worry for me at the waterparks. In the past I have take swim goggles for the water slides or when going under waterfalls. I look ridiculous.... but I just put them on for the ride down/or when going under the falls and then pull them off right away. It helps me enjoy the waterpark rides and not worry about losing a contact lens.

It's all about having fun!

I've worn contacts for about 15+ years now and have been on thousands of waterslides, rides, wave pools, etc and have never lost a contact. I even was a competetive swimmer for a while in high school w/ the contacts only wore goggles at meets b/c required. I am blind without them and cannot function (no joke). I just close my eyes if I am going under water and risk it. I do wear disposables though so I'm not out that much $$ if I lose one. I just keep a pair at the hotel/in car if not on site; to me its not a lost day if I have to run back and get a back up.

Now sitting at my desk at work is a whole different story, I actually lost one today!

DH and I have both lost contacts on the slides at Hooten Holler Hollow at River Country. We have had APs to Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach and do not recall losing any at them in our many times there.

My 2 teens wear contacts and I never allow them to wear contacts in the water. Our Ophthalmologist, MD has warned them NEVER to wear contacts in any pool/shower/lakes and so on because you can get a very serious eye infection that can cause blindness. Our doctor says that some type of organism (I don't remember the exact term) absorbs in the lens (my kids wear disposable 30 day contacts) and over time can cause the eye problems. They wear their glasses and then take the glasses off after they arrive at the water parks/pools. I wear glasses and I wear a safety strap on the water rides at BB/TL.

I've never lost a lens while at a water park, but I always carry a spare pair in my beach bag, or when I swim laps at the gym....just in case! It's always wise to travel with at least one spare pare of contact lenses any time you are on vacation, and away from you optometrist/ophthalmologist's office. If you are really afraid of losing a lens, and are blind as a bat without them, consider getting a pair of goggles. I swim laps on a regular basis, wear contacts in the pool, and just wear my goggles over top. Never have lost one yet. Good luck to you, and have a great vacation!!!!

Once at waterpark she went to bathhouse took her contacts out put on glasses an LEFT contact case with contacts in case in bathhouse an by the time she remembered what she had done at the end of day the case an contacts was long gone!

DD did not get new contacts till she was able to get a job an pay for them herself

Thank you all for the messages. I am blind as a bat w/o them and really need them to function-I am near sighted. The goggles sound like a great idea. Goofy? perhaps but workable. I wear the disposables too but you have no idea how klutzy I am getting them in. I use a magnified mirror and it takes me like 5 minutes per eye. I can't have one spec of anything on them or I have to take them out and start again. And I've been wearing them for 10 years! Yikes! So that is my dilema if I lose one and have to replace one at the parks. A nightmare. And I am afraid to break my glasses on a ride. We have never been before and the rides look pretty wild.

Thanks agains for all of your advice! CMOM

ohiotinkfan...that sounds scarey too. Maybe if I wear them and just throw them away after the waterpark. I don't want an eye infection. ugh

Has anyone ever worn contacts while snorkeling? I'm extremely nearsighted, and would love to snorkle, but I'm afraid of losing my lenses.
