Tell me about upgrading MYW tickets

I am so use to 10 day no expiration tickets and annual passes - I really don't know what I am doing here.

We have a large party (over 20 people) going to the world in December.

I purchased 7 day MYW passes for a few of them. We only plan on going to the parks 4 days. (there was really no cost difference between the 7 and the 4 so why not, just in case we need).

Part 1:
I know there are tricks to upgrade to no expiration tickets.
When is the best time to do this?

After 1st day of use? If so, how much would that cost?
After 4th day of use? If so, how much would that cost?

Part 2:
4 of the people I purchased tickets for will more than likely not be going back to disney - so if upgrade they probably won't use. Since I paid for all of these originally - I was hoping I could upgrade and use for my families use.

I assume since they won't have our name or our finger scan that would be impossible - but thought I would check anyway.

Part 1: There is no difference in cost whether you upgrade after the 1st, 4th, or any other day of use, so long as it is within 14 days of first use. The costs are always based on the length of the previous ticket, not how much is left on it.

If there is any chance you bought them at a discount, then you want to use it at least once first, so you will get full gate price credit. If you paid face value, then it doesn't matter as much.

Not that upgrading to no-expire only makes financial sense if you can fit one or more entire visits within the remainder of the ticket. If you have to purchase another ticket, then you will actually end up paying more overall.

Part 2: Tickets are not transferable. Once used by a person, they can only be used by that person.

Although in some situations tickets purchased and used together can be tied together for convenience reasons such that anyone in the group could use any of the tickets (their finger scans will work), this is not consistent and cannot be guaranteed to be the case.

FYI, the difference between a 4-day and 7-day expiring ticket is $9+tax. Not necessarily negligible especially if you know for a fact you are not using the additional days.

Thanks - so the only true financial benefit of upgrading to a no-expiration is if you purchased the tickets at a discount in the first place (ie: undercover tourist). With all the talk about upgrading here I thought there might be some secret I was missing.

Yes, I realized the $9 difference between the 4 and 7 - that is why I opted for the 7. Heck for $9 if someone wants to go to a park again - then it is there.

Thanks for the info!!!!!

As far as I know, the only financial benefit is if you can fit more than one complete trip with the length of a non-expiring ticket. If you also had the WPFM option, there are a few additional benefits (since those options don't expire either). I don't think it has much to do at all with having bought at a discount either way.

A lot of the upgrade talk is mostly with the 4/3 deal (pay for at least 4 days, get 3 free), which could be a big discount when getting non-expire as part of the package (not after the fact), but you still need to be able to use the non-expire option effectively.

Other upgrade talk is usually associated with Annual Passes.

But you could always add additional days at any time, so long as it is within the 14 day window. If you had a 4-day and used them, but then decided you wanted to go for another day, you pay $3+tax.
