Solar eclipse pits superstition against science

Quote:
Indian astrologers are predicting violence and turmoil across the world as a result of this week's total solar eclipse, which the superstitious and religious view as a sign of potential doom.
But astronomers, scientists and secularists are trying to play down claims of evil portent in connection with Wednesday's natural spectacle, when the moon will come between the Earth and the sun, completely obscuring the sun.
Waiting…..

There are billions of humans on the planet, at any time of any day there will be violence and turmoil somewhere on the planet. That is about as stupid as saying because of a solar eclipse some one will be born!

It does sound odd but then again a lot of people believe that our moods are affected by the moon. The word 'lunatic' comes from 'lunar'. I have an aunt who is convinced that her daughter is adversely affected by the moon - she swears that a full moon brings out the most appalling behaviour in her.

There is some slight truth in there.

I have heard many nurses that work in the ER say that when there is a full moon they have a lot more folks coming in.

I work in a hospital, and yep, the full moons bring out the crazies.

But when you think about it.....if the moon can cause the tides to rise and fall, why wouldn't it affect humans? We are mostly water right? Just a thought.
