Vero Beachin' it right now

On our first full day here, we have had a blast....a few stumbles but overall a good time so far.
We arrived yesterday and spent some time at the beach and the pool. Luckily our room was ready when we arrived, however the pull-out sofa had some troubles but they were quickly resolved. Our daughter did the cd case craft and we had a nice dinner at Shutters. The rains came but that was okay because we had gotten a movie from the store.
Monday: We awoke to Pirate Day and had a blast this morning making a pirate sword, finding treasure coming down the water slide, making the Mickey plate(definitely worth the money), doing the treasure hunt, having a yummy lunch at Bleachers with the tropical chicken pita---which I will have again tomorrow!!!!, doing the un-birthday party and visiting the beach. The not so great parts were the Pirate Dinner---terrible food for lots of money---I had heard this but, of course, being stubborn had to try it myself. Well, let me just say that I wish that I hadn't!! Nothing yummy here, folks, just move along. Then we went to the campfire, I didn't think the CM's were very into it(did not make it fun) and we were joined by some rats!! Yuck! Let's just say that I had to buy my DD some ice cream to make up for her being traumatized! Of course, it's not hard to get me to buy a Mickey Bar!!
Looking forward to the SnorkleEars tomorrow. We will be here until Friday so if anyone has any questions, I will try to answer.
All in all so far, I like HHI better. I know everyone says the CMs here are the best but I guess we have avoided the great ones so far! I like that the beach is right here but I am still voting for HHI. I like Vero Beach but haven't adored it yet!

Vero Beach is a great DVC property. Enjoy your vacation and try the bar-b-que slidders at Shutter's for lunch if you get a chance.

Its nice that you are having a good time.
We are going in May .....for our first time.
Are the sofa beds as comfy as the Boardwalk resort?
My Mom wanted to take it home....

Hi guys, thanks, we are having a great time. My daughter is sleeping on the pull-out sofa and hasn't complained so that definitely means it is comfy!! The rats came out over by the campfire! Kinda gross but hey, I guess we are out in nature!!
Yesterday we had a fun day of beach and pool time. We rented two chairs and an umbrella which I didn't think was too bad since we are only doing it one day. We met Barbie,, the naturalist at 8:30 on the boardwalk for a nature hike. She found a shark's tooth for my DD and we saw where a sea turtle had come up that night and left a trail. We also found a baby turtle that didn't make it out to the ocean. My DD was quite sad over that but we also saw baby turtle tracks going out to the ocean so she was hoping that some of them made it.
We spent most of the morning at the beach, which was very nice. Then my DD did SnorkleEars and loved that. We also went to the Seaside Cinema which is like a Dive-in movie at the pool. They showed Cars and it was very well attended. The pool was full of kids! That was lots of fun....they sold popcorn and other treats at Bleachers for everyone to enjoy.
We are looking forward to our day today. DD is doing the Kid's Club tonight so DH and I will have a date night!

I have 2 opinions
We had tried usual things to keep them away, including something like coyote urine, it is sold in hardware stores by us

Thanks for telling about the great time you're having at VB! Next year we're doing an all family vacation there. The DGC will be old enough to enjoy some of the activities you're mentioning! The slide races were a big hit with my family last year.

So sad about the little sea turtle. I do hope the others can make it. It's an amazing cycle! Some of our group last year went on a night hike where they saw a female laying eggs.

OOOh - I vote for Oriente in the Costa d Este for your date night!
I think they even have a fixed price chef-table type offering tonight as an option.

DH and I were at Vero two years ago and loved it. It was very quiet and relaxing. We had an OV room. It was great to hear the ocean at nite and when we woke up in the morning. We were only there for two days. I did not like the ocean too much. I thought the drop off was bad. I also like HH much better. HH was the first resort we toured, we did not buy there at that time, we waited and did a resale at OKW.
The rats are a little scary. While we were at the pool a snake went by. I did not see it, thank God, and DH never told be he saw it until a year later when for some unknown reason the topic came up. He didn't want to upset meWe plan on living in the south someday. I don't know how I will do it. I can't stand bugs and snakes. Oh well.

Thanks for the report. VB sounds great. We'll be there 8/18 for three nights. We are two families with 5 kids age 4 - 12. Can you tell me about snorkleears? What is the age range of the kids? Do they have to have their own snorkles? What do they do?

Have a great rest of your trip!

TIA
Barbara

SnorklEARS

SnorklEARS is a supervised activity. Kids watch a video on snorkeling and get snorkle instruction at the poolside. They are given a very nice snorkel and mask that they can keep. My kids really enjoyed it - a great activity for tweens/older elementary kids that are strong swimmers and interested.
Kids seems to be in the 8-13 range. It looked cool and my kids loved it (they were 8 and 10 at the time).

Do you by any chance have a list /sheet of all the activities that they offer for kids at Vero Beach- I would love to see it. We hope to do a week there next summer.... and just wonder what all we can participate in.
