alamo car sizes - big family - will we fit?
so i reserved a car a long LONG time ago for the christmas period we are in wdw. the rate is great ($199 per week) but now i am thinking the size of the vehicle won't fit us all.
the car we rented is a Standard SUV - 4-Door/Automatic/Air - Chevrolet TrailBlazer Or Similar their website has a picture of 4 adults and 1 child and some suitcases. we have 2 adults and 4 children. 2 will be bringing their booster seats and 2 will be bringing full on car seats. we will also have 4 smallish suitcases. do you think we will fit? i played around with my ressie and to upgrade to a bigger car makes me lose the price i originally resserved at. jumps up to $300 per week. yikes!

I would say no. If you have 6 people and the suv only seats 5. I don't think these sized suv's have 3rd row seats.

Yea, no 3rd row in the SUV's. You will need a minivan. Sorry!

Sorry, you can't fit 6 people in a Standard size car
. You certainly can't fit 4 car/booster seats! You will need a full-size SUV or a Minivan. Here is a thread of people who are sharing good December rates: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2231289 Thrifty has a minivan for $268 per week Christmas week using the code "004m001010" from that thread.

To the OP. . . . I found that is you CALL Alamo and request the Car Change, they will often keep the original discount code/price of what you would have paid for the new level. In other words, if the car was $250 when you originally booked it, they will honor that price. Call and ask! Certainly worth a try!

I've found with Alamo & National (owned by the same company and websites use similar technology), that I can modify a reservation and keep the same original rate. The screen that comes up showing the different types of cars looks like it's going to be a much higher rate, but when I go ahead and select a car and go to the next screen, it's back to my original lower rate. At that point, there are 2 options on the screen - keep original or modified reservation. So, you really have nothing to lose to try this and see if it does in fact keep your original rate. Now, if you're changing vehicle type, I'm not sure this would work because I was just changing dates. I've actually been able to change an existing great rate to a completely different trip that was months later than the first using this method. And when I bring up the confirmation # it shows the lower rate. We've also actually used a reservation that I modified in this manner, so I know it works (or at least did before.)

The rate could have expired. I've always had the philosophy to speak to a manager in a kind voice. It's amazing what they can do for you when you are kind and honest. I would suggest you tell them your predicament and see if your honesty and kindness goes anywhere. Asking for a manager if a salesperson can not help is not being rude at all. The worse they can say is "no". It might help to check a couple of the competitor's prices and bring them to the table. Sometimes they will "match" a price for you. It's all worth a shot! Best of luck!
