Help re flight food.... - The DIS Discussion Forums

Hi, I'm sorry if this is an ignorant question, but DD has decided that she 'hates' the food on the aeroplane, and just wants fruit or something she can pick at, and we'll get her something to take on board at the airport.

BA have a choice of meals - Asian vegetarian, Kosher, Muslim, Hindu, Vegetarian non-lacto, Vegetarian non-dairy. What is going to be the best option for a fruit platter or something similar? I was wondering if anyone had opted for any of these?

gluten free always normally has fruit as the starter and fruit as a dessert (on virgin anyway)

I would take it with you, not rely on getting what you want from an airline. DW always takes apples with her.

some airlines actually have a 'fruit platter' choice...
did you check with BA?

i've tried the various vegetarian options and i've rarely found any of them to be good...

call BA and see if they have fruit only..
if not, order one of the vegetarian options - not sure which though....

most importantly, bring food for her....

by the way, some airlines have a children's meal - does BA? and if so, would your daughter eat that?

I dont like aeroplane food either I cant even stand the smell

by the way, if you do bring fresh fruit on the flight for her, be sure to leave any leftovers on the plane...

you're not permitted to take fresh fruit off the plane into the united states

but you can bring it onto the plane to eat it while you're flying.

we always take food on the plane with us...

my kids take a backpack full of food - they hate airline food too (who likes the stuff?)

my kids take bread, sandwiches, crackers, sweets, gum, cereal...

pretty much everything in the kitchen...

Only been with BA once to NYC, childs meal was made from chocolate, no good for DS but he loved it, can't remember what it was but it was very heavy on choc.

I am another who hates airline food. As a frequent flier (a minimum of 4 long haul flights a month and some smaller ones thrown in) I have learnt to dread the smell of the food as they prepare to bring it around.
More and more I am starting to take my own, or just make sure I eat before boarding, and will definately be taking my own when we go to Florida in October.
Chances are that when DS and DD figure out what I am up to they will want to take their own as well, and that is fine with me, but it will be on the strict understanding that anything they don't eat gets binned on the plane and that they don't try to smuggle it in in their back packs

In 2006 I starved on the outbound flight, and survived the return flight one just a book of Disney cookies that we picked up at the airport!

I don't know how I managed - I'm a person that tends to eat little, but often, so 8-9hrs with no food was a killer.

In 2007, having seen the kids meals, we thought we'd cracked it. We ordered kids meals, despite being adults, and things worked out great. My sister and I traded a bit of food - I'd get her carrot sticks and fruit bag, she'd get my chocolate and sweets. It worked out great. Also took this opportunity to eat a big meal at Planet Hollywood before getting back on the flight home!

Last year, we thought, yeah, let's do that again, not realising that if we were in PE we wouldn't get the same type of kids meal. I think in the end I was able to trade mine for an adult meal. We had already booked another big meal before leaving WDW to return home, so weren't too bothered by flight home food. Good job too - the children's meal was cheese, and the adult meal was cheese! Hungry again for me on the way home.

Now, I have just given up even trying! I am taking my own food with me, there and back! At least that way I know I won't be hungry for 8hrs or more!

Me too. Hubby eats my meal & I eat his cheese & crackers.
