7 month window for Easter Week

We are planning to go to WDW the week between Palm Sunday and Easter in 2010, which of course is the most crowded week of the year along with Christmas! I currently am booked at SSR, which I love and will be quite content to stay at as always. But I do have to wonder, what might be available at my 7 month window? Its a busy time of year but with the high points I wonder if maybe something else might be available? Anybody have luck getting something at the 7 month mark during a super busy week?

Note, it will be a studio and since we just did OKW and will stay there in October 2010, that one doesn't interest me as much.

Any opinions/experiences appreciated!

I am going to guess that there are already waiting lists at the DVC Resorts for Easter Week. You might want to get on one of those, otherwise you probably will not be successful. Never say never, but not likely IMHO.

Just to give you a little glimmer of hope: We are currently booked for the week of Easter at AKV, our home resort. But are hoping to switch over to SSR at the 7 month mark. I think there will be a reasonable amount of people doing something similar - you just need to give the system a chance to let the chips fall into place. :-)

In response to the pp: you mentioned you thought there were already wait lists at many DVC resorts for that week. Can you elaborate? I assumed, which of course I know I should never do, that I cannot call to get on any list (other than my home resort) until the 7 month mark. So are you saying that there are waitlists of people who cannot get into their home resort for that week? Or that I should be getting on a list now if I want to switch? I'm a tad confused . . .

I am saying that there are many people who call exactly 11 months prior to book Easter vacations. Those owners then start waitlists as they book so very quickly - just like Christmas week. By the time 7 months rolls around, there are usually already lengthy waitlists for these two most popular times of the year..

Thanks so much. I may call on my 7 month mark just to see, but I won't bother with waitlisting. In fact, I may not even bother period, we all love SSR and probably will just want to stick with that. I was just curious if the high points might actually work in my favor!

Sorry Carol - I am totally new to all things DVC and just wanted to check if I have understood properly - If I knew that at 7 months I would want to swap resorts, can I put my name on a waitlist from 11 months out, or can you only join a waitlist at 11months out for your home resort ??

Last year for that same timeframe we were able to switch from AKV to BVC right at the 7 month mark. I did call right at 9am when they opened, but got my 1 BR without a problem. Good Luck!

You can only be put on a WL when you call at 7 months and try to make the reservation.

When you call MS, the only resorts that can tell you about during that 7 - 11 month period is your home resort. They can't even tell you about the other resorts at all. I have been told that when they enter your member #, and then the dates, it will bring up only your home resort if you are outside the 7 month mark.

thanks Sandi, thats what I had originally thought, but then I thought maybe Carol was saying something different - but I guess I misread her post - I think she must of been talking about home resort people waitlisting for their own resorts during busy times.

thanks for clarifying!!

any idea what the weather will be like then? I know it's the very end of March beginning of April. we're thinking of going then too, and hanging out at the resort.

We switched resorts at 7 mos out for a 1 bedroom Easter week with no problem. As for the weather, it is usually warm, but being that Easter is early, you can get a cold day. One year with Easter break in March, we had 30 degree wind chills at nite! the week before was record 90 degree highs
