Getting bogged down with the HB+ Options :(

Hi everyone

Apologies for yet another thread about HB+ vouchers but even after reading all the threads im still really confused

Firstly my daughter will be just under 3 when we go (Hotel NY in September) and i realise she wont get any vouchers, so am i correct in assuming i have to buy her a meal unless we are at a buffet restaurant?

Next if i go into a restaurant do i have to say i have HB+ vouchers straight away and am i then given a set menu or do i choose what i want from a menu and then decide how i want to pay i.e cash/vouchers (can you use a mixture of both??)

Sorry im just really confused about where to eat, where does buffet meals, how to get the best value from the vouchers-well the whole thing in general really!

Thinking of Cafe Mickey (well thats a definate as DD is a huge fan) and maybe Walts as would really like to see the parade from our table and anywhere else that is child friendly and has Princesses and characters really!

Really sorry for all the questions but really cant get my head round this whole thing, so looking to you oldies to take pity a 1st timer.

TIA for any replies

Don't worry your not the only one, i'm as confused as anything!!! As far as i'm aware (and I may be wrong ).
-Yes you'll have to pay for any food for your daughter (unless she will just eat a bit off your plate?) my dd is 18months so thats what we're doing.

-I think you can use your vouchers as face value in any restaurant. HB+ is E26 and HB Prem E46.

-I don't think you have to tell them before that you have vouchers.

-Inventions is ment to be good for characters (dinner only) but its E51 each for buffet! With my dd being so young think i'd rather be in a relaxed setting like that rather than the scrums i've heard about. We're going to use 2 HB+ vouchers I think to pay for it.

Hope i've helped a little, but as I said before I'm soooo confused myself. I was thinking of going half board prem then eating in cheaper places at face value and using one voucher each time, but dont think I can do that, I reckon thats why they say that they can be used for monetary value in fine dining restaurants.

When you going in sept? we're staying for 3 nights from the 10th and staying in New York too.

I'll try and help but its a bit of a minefield sometimes with half board.

First of all you are right you wont get a voucher for your DD but can either let her share yours/ buy her a meal or she will eat free at buffets.

You are probably best to let them know you have vouchers (they will probably ask anyhow) and then you will be told what you can have from the menu without extra charge (it may be a seperate menu), if you dont like what is offered you can use the vouchers at face value to choose whatever you want (they are worth 26E I think) - if the total bill is more than the value of the vouchers you just pay it in cash.

Buffets are: Plaza Gardens, Inventions (wonderful but very expensive), Restaurant des Stars, agrabah, Billy Bobs, Steakhouse bruch (Sundays only), Lucky Nugget

There are characters at Cafe Mickey, Lucky nugget, Inventions, Sunday Brunch, Auberge de Cendrillon (Princesses)

Hope this helps

I have been thinking the exact same thing! My daughter will also be just under 3 when we go in September and I haven't booked the HB vouchers but now I'm thinking I should. Not sure if it's too late to add it on though.

We also want to do Walt's to see the parade (But saw another thread on here saying it's not open every day in September) and Cafe Mickey and Auberge to see the princesses!! At least the expense is in advance even if you can only use the vouchers for their face value if the set menus don't appeal.

We're staying at Newport Bay Club so can use the vouchers there too.

I also want to visit Rainforest Cafe which don't accept the vouchers so that's one meals worth that can go towards something else I suppose?

Hope you all enjoy the meals in any event!

Im so glad its not just me thats confused

Seriously thank you for the replies- i know it can be frustrating when things that seem straightforward to you aren't to others but it's taking me some time to get my head round this but i think im (beginning!) to get there!

Donzy84 we're going on the 21st (Tues) until the Saturday-will look forward to your report trip since we're going to the same hotel!

Which brings me onto my next question ( inserts embarressed icon )
We arrive on the Tuesday for 5 days (4 nights) so will presumabley receive 5 days worth of vouchers but our flight on Sat is at lunch time-so we won't use any vouchers that day.
Am i right in thinking i could use two HB+ vouchers each (for my husband and i) at for example Inventions (which is a buffet so my daughter would eat free being under 3?) or Cafe Mickey and pay for her meal as it's not?

Im probably starting to sound as clear as mud here but again all help much appreciated

You can add half board on at any time so its not too late.

That's what I'm planning. Also arrive on Tues 22nd and plan on doing Rainforest Cafe that day then using that days voucher towards another meal that's more than the face value. I'm looking forward to the restaurants as much as the rides - how sad?!

You get vouchers for the number of nights you are staying so if doing 4 nights 5 days you will get 4 vouchers and can use them on any days of your stay

Thought I'd just add that the Parkside Diner in the NY is a buffet too.

We used it by paying with hb plus vouchers. I've put a review on the restaurant thread.

Im a nightmare-don't even know the correct date i'm leaving (you're right it is the 22nd not the 21st!) or how many vouchers i'll be getting-thank you for the info that its 4

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply-our visit to DLP isn't really about the rides (neither my husband or I are that keen) it's really all about the characters for our daughter so that's why it's so important to us to get it "right".

Think we have settled on Cafe Mickey, Auberge de Cendrillon and Inventions with the last one being the Lucky Nugget (or perhaps Mac Donalds and saving some HB+ vouchers to add to one of the above nights!)

Have been avidly reading all the reviews, links and threads and now just need to work out what time to book for and where's the best palce to try to get seated once in there-i'm going to need another holiday to recover from the planning of this one!

Seriously tho, thank you so much, if it wasn't for this forum I would have simply assumed I was HB in the HNY and eaten there every night but now have so many options and the chance to give DD a fabulous trip-so thanks again for all your help!
