How big are the kids TS meals?

I was just reading here about some people upgrading their kids to adult on the DDP. I have a 9.5 yr old DD (looks like a teen though) who is happy with the kids meal choices, but I am just wondering if they will be big enough for her or if I should upgrade her? This is our third trip and for the TS meals I can't remember what we did last time as she wasn't that big of an eater two years ago. The times before we did lots of dinner shows and family buffets that is wasn't an issue. She has grown from a size 7/8 to a womens small in two years! Do they let you pay OOP for an extra piece of chicken? That is her standard meal anywhere we go chicken nuggets and fries. She is not very adventurous. The only places this time I think it will affect will be Sci Fi, Kona, Raglan Road and LeCellier. I made her look at the menus and she was happy with the kids choices but wants more than two pieces of chicken. Or if I upgrade can I ask for the kids meal just more adult sized. TIA!

We had more trouble with the size of the QS meals than TS meals. I have dd who is 11, and a DS8 who both eat pretty well. The TS meals were enough food for them everytime. But, we ended up getting adult QS meals for them several times (we were not on the DDP). For example, at Columbia Harbor House, the kids meals were so small that I think my kids would have downed it in two bites and then asked for seconds. My dd did get a kids meal once at Roaring Forks and it was 4 chicken nuggets and a very small serving of fries. It was not nearly enough. It was like the small McDonald's kids meals.

you have to take most kids' meals the way they come. We actually never get the nuggets and fries -- DD won't eat them. But the mac and cheese and pizza kids' meals are big enough for me once you include the 2 sides and a small milk.

So, if you're going with anything with fries, it's either adult or kids meal -- but you can ask for the adult meals without the fries. For TS, I would actually suggest you stick with the kids' meal and order an appetizer for her.

It also depends on what restaurants you are going to if it is enough food. My DD (9) is in a big girl. She's 57" and almost 100 lbs. She eats well. At CRT she was fine but at Capt'n Jacks it was ridiculously tiny portions. We made sure to fit in plenty of buffets and family served meals for our TS meals to supplement. They had chicken and mac -n- chesse on just about every buffet.

QS places for us were much harder as PP said. Chicken strips were usually 2-3 "strips" and a decent amount of fries with a fruit or cookie for dessert. My DD is not a big fry eater. At El Perita she ordered a quesadilla which was a mini tortilla not nearly enough for a snack.

When they switched to the "healthier" meals a few years ago they limited amounts of calories in the kids meals. Since they range in age from ages 3-9 I can't imagine that the same amount of calories works. To me they seemed sized for an average 5 year old. The nuggets serving at QS and TS was 4. For things like rotisserie chicken it would be one small chicken leg. There may be plenty of fries or carrots but the protein portion was tiny. The dessert at TS is a tiny bowl of ice cream with decorations. I didn't care about the desserts b/c my kids were getting plenty of other junk but when my son was 9 he was very hungry after meals and I bought lots of extras for him like fruit cups just to fill him up. They only have nuggets no strips anymore. I'm not sure if they will sell you extra or not we typically filled in with stuff off our plates and bread and then would buy him extra stuff between meals. There were also a few QS places where I just bought him a real burger OOP when he was really hungry. It was fine with him being on the kids plan since he preferred kids food and I didn't end up spending that much extra buying him stuff--maybe $50 for the whole week.

The portions are generally pretty small. You could eat at buffets where she can eat all she wants. Some of the CS meals were decent size wise, some were not. My dd is glad she's now 10 and on the adult plan.
