Anyone thinking of banking your DVC points and paying for your next trip?

I have a 10 day rez for BCV in Oct this year, first time going there. Was thinking of changing it to save and bank our points and paying to stay at either POP or CB and get "free" dining for a price difference of $400-$800 more than what we are paying for cause we are doing the dining plan which will cost us $1000 for the week w, DVC. Now I'm not counting in our yearly bill at all cause it's already paid, and we are annual passholders, so don't have to pay for park tix's and that's how we are getting the offer. And I REALIZE the Pop or CB are no where near the same as BCV, but what do you think? Should I bank our points and stay at BCV next year for a longer time or even try somewhere else alltogether, or even get a year ahead banked for later.

Any info/help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Someone correct me if i am wrong, but the "Free Dining" requires at least a room at rack rate AND base tickets! If you already have AP, you would still have to purchase the tickets! I think that you could upgrade them to an AP, but you still have to buy them.

You need to buy a 1 day ticket to get free dining even if you have an AP.

Yes. But just one day of park tix's. And I was told that they were no expiration type when I called. There is a chance that some friends may come with us and they would buy the tix's from me.

Sounds like a plan then. Our friends are doing something similar. They are renting their points out and then staying 5 nights at POFQ with free dining and 3 nights at OKW with regular dining. The renting of their points will more than pay for their flights so they will have less OOP.

I think all of our spouses already know it on some level. Good luck.

This is (more or less) what we've ended up doing for this trip, here in the UK they were doing excellent deals for OKW/SSR with free dining, so it's 2 weeks in Sept at OKW for us :D

And what will you do next year if there's free dining again?

There's no way I'd trade mine in! We bought it for the space and I just can't go back.

Keep in mind that I believe the way this promotion works, if you do POP you will get free QSDP and if you do CB you get the regular DP. You can pay the difference at POP to upgrade, however.

I'm not going to be any help to you at all since I stayed on points at Kidani in July did free dining at CSR in August and we're staying on points next month at BLT

Owning DVC has never prevented me from doing FD, too!

I am seriously considering this for next year for my solo trip. I want to bank my 2010 points for a family vacation in 2011. We want to go in the spring in 2011 and the points needed for a 1 or 2 bedroom are higher than I what I generally use.
