Le Cellier - My Truth About Series

I have read many threads that go on for pages and pages discussing whether Le Cellier deserves all the hype it does. I've dined there four times and will dine on two more occasions during my upcoming trip. Let me give you my opinion based on ten criteria.

Atmosphere - I'm kind of on the edge about this one. The decor is very nice, but it's nothing anymore special than a fancy local restaurant could serve up.

Menu - Nice choices and variety. It's primarily a steakhouse, but they definitely have options for those who don't eat beef. Is the menu extensive - no, but it does have enough offerings to keep most anyone interested.

Appetizers - Starters are okay. I've had the Wasabi Shrimp Cocktail, which was good but not great. I've also had the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup, which was also fine, but nothing special. I don't think the soup deserves all the praise it gets, but then again, perhaps I had it on an off night. With the nice bread selection they serve, appetizers aren't really necessary.

Entrees - Probably the stand-out category of the review. The Mushroom Filet is very good. It's definitely not the best steak I've ever had, but it ranks up there in the top 5 or so. This is actually the only entree I've ever had here.

Desserts - They have a nice selection. The Creme Brulee is good, but so is every other Creme Brulee is Disney World. The Chocolate Moose is good as well, but I've definitely had better. My personal favorite is the Chocolate Whisky Cake. It is nice and moist with a good flavor.

Portions - This could go either way. They definitely give you enough to fill you up, but the sizes aren't astounding. You get a dish and just think, "Okay. I can eat this whole thing." I've never felt like, "WOW! This is huge! I will never be able to finish this!"

Service - Very inconsistent. The first three times I dined here, service was very nice, but the most recent time, it was not. Service here just depends on the waiter you receive. But even with the best waiter, the service does not match up to some other restaurants I've been to. Les Chefs de France has absolutely the best wait staff ever.

Cleanliness - I wouldn't say it's spotless and gleaming, but I've never had anything to complain about. The place is clean enough that you aren't thinking about it. And the bathrooms, although dark, are clean too.

Value - This is where things become a bit tricky. Is the Mushroom Filet really worth $35? Possibly, depending on who you are. In my case, if it's cooked exactly the way I asked and the flavors are perfect, then yes. But otherwise, I'd have to reconsider. I don't know if I would pay Out Of Pocket for this restaurant, but it is a good value on the Disney Dining Plan, especially if you are getting the Plan for free.

Location - Alright, there's not much to complain about here. It's located in the Canada pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase. Since Canada is the first country on the right as you enter from Future World, it can easily be reached from all areas of the park. So if you are running a tad behind or something, you can still make it within the time they will hold your reservation.

So, we come to the big question... Is Le Cellier really deserving of all the raving it receives?

I'd say it's definitely one of the stand-out restaurants at Disney World. But if I were unable to get a reservation there, it wouldn't ruin my life. There are many other great restaurants to dine at in Disney. Les Chefs de France, Tutto Italia, Teppan Edo, Boma, Kona, and O'hana are some of my favorites, just to name a few.

Thanks to everyone for reading all this and I hope it helps to generate some discussion. Also, if anyone is interested in more "The Truth About...", please just comment, as I would be more than willing to make it into a series.

Thank you for this - after reading many mixed reviews I have booked this mainly as the menu caters for all of us.

I know we all have different opinions but with this review I remain confident in my choice and look forward to eating there!

good assessment, nicely written...agree with all your points. We don't "have" to go to Le Cellier every trip...we're still working our way through the restaurants so it's about one out of 3 trips for us.

Thank you for writing this. I have never went to LeCellier b/c there is so many other places to eat in Epcot and we just never manage to get there...I know its not in my husband priorty restaurant b/c he doesn't really eat red meat so he tend to go to the other places in Epcot but then I read so many good reviews.

I am ashamed to say I have cancelled ADRs at Le Cellier for dinner on our last two trips. I know it is blasphemous, being that it is the holy grail of ADRs. Nothing against LC, it just didn't fit in with our touring plans and DW is not a steak- eater.
In any event, we once again have an ADR for Le Cellier for dinner this trip and I have vowed NOT to cancel and I am very much looking forward to it.

Part of me is glad that there have been some more down to earth reviews like the one from the OP, so that our expectations are not too high b/c there is no place on earth that could like up the Le Cellier hype.

thanks for the review! I always hear how you HAVE to go to and it was nice to just get an honest truthful opinion. I have never been to Disney and we have all character meals planned for the kids with the exception of this one. We are big steak eaters..so I think we will do just fine! I don't have to cook or clean up and I will be in Disney so I am sure it will be fabulous for me! I am looking forward to a decent meal!!

Nice review. For our family, we love Le Cellier. The kids(DD10 and DD7) love the pretzel bread and adore the Chocolate Moose. My wife and I rarely have steak, but we really love the filet.

I don't know if I could stomach paying the bill out of pocket, but for us its a no-brainer on the DDP. In fact, we'll be going twice on our upcoming trip.

Totally agree with this assessment. We have a much better local steakhouse within 10 minutes from my house, and also have a Ruth Chris' nearby -- Le Cellier doesn't really hold a candle to those. But at WDW, I think it is one of the better choices out there.

We enjoyed our meal there quite a bit (only been there once), but there are so many other choices that I wouldn't be stressed about finding it all booked up.

I love the Tois Pistoles!

I've only been to Le Cellier once and loved it. I ordered the Mushroom Filet (mainly because the risotto sounded so good - and it was). I rarely eat steak (maybe twice a year) so I was hesitant to give Le Cellier a try (so many other great restaurants to eat at). However my husband loves steak so that's we did. I have to say it's one of the best steaks I've ever had. If all steaks were so good I might eat them more often. We also had wonderful service. We'll be eating there again this Sept (for lunch) so I'll see if it's as good as it was last time.

I do have to say that we waited forever for our table... 30 minutes or so. That was definitely the negative part of our experience.
