And Nanny Came Too! Day 13 - More Park Hoppin'

Thursday 17th April 2008

The Cast:

Me (Matt) 42, though young at heart!
DW (Claire) 41, and ditto
DS11 (Samuel), already a teenager!
DS9 (Tommy), daredevil coaster rider!

Today is another day for nipping between parks to try and ride the stuff that was too much for Nanny while she was here. A big fill-up is needed beforehand, so we go to Sizzler on the 192 at the top of Old Lake Wilson, where we went on day 3. I've copied and pasted what I wrote about it that day:

Now then, I have no idea what time the chefs come in and prepare the food, but it must be a bit of a time before opening because, although the cooked stuff is very tasty and well-cooked, it's also not overly hot, as though it's been stood a while. The fresh fruit, pastries and such like more than make up for this, though, and we leave having had a decent enough breakfast (not a patch on Perkins, mind).

Some people never learn. Despite the above, we are there at opening time again, and again the food is tasty but not too warm. The fruit and pastries are good, again, and it's only $29 for the four of us, so not a bad breakfast. I have to say, though, that next year we will test the theory and go a half hour or so after opening, so that the first batch of food has been eaten by the early birds and a fresh lot has been brought out. Keep reading in August 2010 and I'll let you know!

We make it to Animal Kingdom for rope drop, and follow the rope round to Everest, where we grab FPs as well as joining the queue. After the first run round it is already FP time, so we're straight back on. Love this ride. The theming is brilliant in the queuing section, and the ride itself is great fun. I try to video the ride, but it doesn't come out very well, I'm afraid!

Dinosaur is the other AK ride we've earmarked for a revisit, so we march off, spotting Chip & Dale on the way and pausing for a photo.

After Dinosaur, it's time to try MK but, on arrival, we realise this was probably a bad plan. It is unbelievably busy. The queue times for everything are HUGE. Even It's A Small World has an hour's standby time! We manage to get into a showing of Philharmagic, and a ride around the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, but that's about it, apart from the kids having the obligatory attempt at removing the sword from the stone.

Can youngest do it?

Eldest?

Both?

No chance! So off we set for our lunchtime ADR at Whispering Canyon Cafe. This is our first time in Wilderness Lodge, and it's certainly an impressive place!

We all opt for the Canyon Skillet, which is excellent, and Mountain Mama, our server, is very grumpy when she brings our food out During the meal, the kids are invited to take part in the Pony Express.

It's now time for shopping, so we head off for Premium Outlets, where DW & I buy Skechers trainers, I get a second pair of trainers and a pair of tee-shirts from Timberland, and DW buys a bag from Fossil (she tells me a girl can never have too many bags!). Having spent a good couple of hours walking around the Mall, we have worked off a bit of the Canyon Skillet, and all agree that we could probably find room for a Coldstone Creamery ice cream. I "design" my own, with butter pecan ice cream, Oreos, Reese's cup, peanut butter and fudge sauce (OMG it's amazing!), DW has the Founder's Favorite signature creation, DS11 has a Peanut Butter Perfection, and DS9 follows my lead and designs his own, with vanilla ice cream, Oreos and Reese's cup. At $20, these are fantastic, and go a long way to making up for the disappointment of Ghirardeli's being closed.

The rest of the day is just leisurely time back at the villa, ready for tomorrow's breakfast ADR at Boma.
