We went to the "Independence Day Jubilee" last night. I'm partial to my Tamron 28-70 but in hindsight should have brought the 18-105. I was happy that I felt confident in what I was doing. I was one of the few in the park using flash when it was light out and making sure it was off once dark. My fireworks pics ended up out of focus but still much better then years past when I had no clue what to do.

A couple of my favs:

ISO 400 f/6.3 1/500

ISO 200 f/6.3 1/125

ISO 200 f/6.3 -.07EV 1/500 pop up for fill

I'm without my primary camera gear and will be on the road all day tomorrow. I'll try to get some patriotic shots after I get back. In the mean time, here is a shot that anyone with a baby can use for inspiration if they want. I took it around 4th of July in 2002.

We're planning to head down to Panama City this evening -- they have fireworks over the marina. Tallahassee is much closer and also has good fireworks, but just in a large city park. I think Panama City's setting is better.

I've only been to see Panama City's show once, and that was nearly 15 years ago. So I'm sort of flying blind here, compared to shooting Wishes. At the Magic Kingdom, I know where to set up, where the fireworks are going to be in the sky, when to get in place -- even when to fire the shutter. Tonight, I'm going to have to do some guesswork on all those factors.

If I can get close enough to the water, I'll probably use my 10-20 and try to get an establishing shot by shooting a bracketed series for HDR, then combine that with the better fireworks shots I get. That's my goal, but it is iffy because I'll do that if I can get the water in the shot and if I don't have to recompose once the fireworks start. If I'm farther back than I'd like, I may switch to the 18-135. Since my lowest marked ISO is 200, I'm guessing f-11 on bulb as a starting point. What do you guys think? I like the fireworks trails to be relatively thin but colorful.

From our parade this morning:

ISO100, F8.0, 1/200

I thought this biker was neat - he's got his bluetooth, and you can see the parade route reflected in his shades:

ISO100, f7.1, 1/160

This was taken Canada Day (July 1), its a street performer. I liked the flag in the background. It was taken in Ottawa, nation's capital, on Rideau. The city was jammed with people for the celebration. Not America Day, but a similar theme I thought.

Nothing patriotic, but definitely symbolic of summer:

ISO100 f5.6 1/800

ISO100 f5.6 1/800

ISO100 f5.6 1/200

ISO100 f5.6 1/100

ISO100 f5.6 1/200

ISO100 f5.3 1/250

Can you tell by the settings that I'm new to the SLR world? LOL

Thank you! I know composition wise it's a nightmare but just loved her expression and excitement. And I get stopped on the street and asked about that hair!
