hI Christine! Nice to "meet" you. Yes, Captiva is nice, we've been there before. I'd rather be in Sanibel or Fort Myers and just visit over to Captiva for a day or two. I like to see and do on vacation. I can relax at home!

Great TR so far- haven't seen the pix yet since I'm at work but you write well so I'll spy that when I get home tonight!

Can't wait to read the rest of your adventures!

Hello! Thanks for joining in. We usually make it over to Captiva for dinner once, usually the Mucky Duck. You're right, its much quieter than Sanibel but so pretty.

Welcome! Thanks for hopping on board. You are so right about the Epcot area! We loved the BC and SAB and seeing the Boardwalk across the lake.

Yay! You started!! I'm glad I found you today before you got too far ahead of me.

So I have to know... how many hours was the drive? You must have driven about 18 hours on day 1?? And how much did it cost you for gas? Sorry if I'm jumping ahead in your report, but we are about 24 hours from Orlando and sometimes I wonder if driving is possible for us. There would have to be a lot of video games.

Hi Amy! Glad you bopped over. Hmmm..well, according to Mapquest and AAA, it should have taken us a little over 15 hours to drive to Valdosta, GA on Day 1. It took us more like 17, and that was on a Sunday. I HIGHLY recommend driving on Sunday because the traffic was negligible. We stopped fairly frequently though, including a lunch break where we go out, had a picnic that I'd packed and played some tag for awhile. Day 2 took us another 4 1/2 hours with a few stops and a little directional oops.

Gas wise? We started out with 1/2 a tank and filled up 3 times on the way down for around $40 a tank. Yes, lots of video games, DVDs, books, stickers. I'd avoid Travel Lite Brights and Legos. Ask me how I know. Oh, and the boxes worked great!

Hi and Yes, the pool was at the top of our Favorite Things About BC list. Sadly, we never made it into Beaches and Cream and I know there was a No Way Jose in there with my name on it.

I'm in!

BC! I'm so excited. I really really want to stay at BC. Well in our case BCV....we are just too big! But....much as I want it....THV "fits" the crew better for the next trip. I kept trying to make BCV fit and it was like the prince putting the shoe on the stepsister. So I'll have to figure out a way to do BC some other time!

I can't wait to read about it! And SAB!!!!!

Waffle House. I Waffle House!

No Waffle Houses up here....I have to go to FL to get me some! Yum!!!!!!!!

What a long, strange day it's been

After a surprisingly good night's sleep, considering we'd done little but sit on our heinies all day, we got up, had breakfast in the hotel and were on the road by 8:00. Today the travel fatigue set in. I'm so glad we decided to drive as far as we could on Day #1! Ian began asking at every pit stop, "Is this Disney World?", and the girls asked how many more hours so often I started to dream about pulling over for the Benadryl.

We stopped at the Florida Visitors Center for the obligatory cup of o.j., got a tiny bit turned around because somebody was a little preoccupied with an episode of The Office, but soon were seeing Orlando signs.

I tortured the kids by stopping at Walmart for water, fruit, yogurt and milk which had to go in the back seat so all three kids were sitting together for the last little bit and they were loud and crazy! Here’s a picture of the kids when we saw the 6 miles to WDW sign:

Finally, we drove under the holy grail of signs:

Directions to the resorts were very easy to follow and by 1:30 we had pulled up in front of the Beach Club! Ahhh.. A gentleman walked up to the car and asked if we were checking in. He said, "There's no guarantee that your room will be ready but happy thoughts help." He began helping George unload the car while I went to check in. I walked up to the front doors and another gentleman asked if I was checking in and my name. I told him and he escorted me to the front desk and presented me to the CM, saying, “This is Mrs. E and she is checking in with her family.” With all of the attention I felt a little like a princess, which is the perfect way to start out a vacation in a place with a castle.

The happy thoughts must have worked because our room was ready! I went out to tell the clan and found our car already unloaded, so George went to park and then met the kids and I in the lobby. Everyone was sufficiently impressed. It smelled wonderful, and managed to feel both relaxed and “beachy” and magnificent at the same time. I could tell we were going to love it here.

We walked to our room, 2532 and let me tell you, it was a haul! I don’t think it would be possible to be any further from the lobby. George and I disagree on whether the location was good for our family. I think closer to the lobby, Marketplace and SAB would have been preferable, but he loved the quiet, our view and the proximity to Epcot. We could walk out the back door and be in Epcot in literally 5 minutes. It would be a perfect F&W Festival location! I can't complain though, since I was the one to request a full balcony and I did enjoy the view. I snapped these pictures of our room before the family descended upon it.

This is the daybed that Ian slept on.

Our full balcony, handy for drying swim suits, but not inviting in the heat of Florida summer.

Our view of the woods next to the International Gateway.

These pictures are a little cockeyed. I think I was in a hurry to get photos before my clan made themselves too thoroughly at home.

After Bell Services brought up our luggage, we had a decision to make. Should we swim or head to Epcot before we had to get ready for our dinner ADR at Chef Mickey's?

Next post: Day #1 Decision time

Love the room and that Mickey lamp is adorable. I love the small Disney touches like that.

Ooh, that Mickey lamp caught my eye, too!! :

The room looks gorgeous!

After that long ride, I would have voted for a family swim in SAB... do great minds think alike??

Hi! Yes, choices for families of 5 are limited and for families of 6 or more are very limited. If you ever get the chance, try the BC though. We loved it.

I soooo want to stay at the Beach Club. We stayed at the YC when I was in HS, but the Beach Club is more relaxing and I like the Decor. Tough decision right away...
