Cool Mickey's Backyard BBQ - Opinions Please

Currently, first on our wish list for our 9/20-9/27 trip, is Mickey's Backyard BBQ on Sunday evening 9/20, our day of arrival.

This one of our "let's try places we've never been" choices. Last year we tried Hoop-De-Doo for the first time, also on our arrival day, and loved it.

So, to those of you who have eaten at Mickey's Backyard BBQ, I'd appreciate your review of your experience.

Thanks!!!!

Hate to throw a spanner in the works but I think its only offered Saturdays and Thursdays. We are planning on doing it Saturday 26th September. I've read a lot of reviews both negative and positive. It seems like people either love it or hate it. I'm going knowing that the characters dance with the kids, and dont sign autographs. I hear it can be a bit of a free for all. But it sounds and looks like (youtube) a lot of fun to us.

We have gone the past couple trips and are going back on 9/12- it is a bit of a free for all but it seems like the characters do recognize each child as they all are dancing at the feet of each character. We have a 27 month old and it is by far his favorite thing.

Every day at home he picks up his "Mickey Phone" and tells Mickey he is coming to his BBQ..pretty funny.

The food is ok, the ribs are very good and they have all you can drink wine and beer.

We recommend it but like the previous poster said there are plenty of reviews both positive and negative.

I think it depends on how old the kids are.

My son was 4 and he had a blast and it was nice cause I could sit and relax (drink) while he danced.

I think if kids are 8 or older they would have a better time at HDDR, but for the younger kids it is great because they can run around and have fun while they eat.

Hmmm, well this trip is just my daughter and I, she's the youngest of my 3 children.... she's 21.

It could still be fun. I was thinking older kids/teenagers might think it is "uncool" to go there and not have a good time.

Sorry to be 'Joe Negative' here, but I have to give my honest opinion.

We hated it.

Hot, crowded, adults pushing over other people to get their screaming kids onto the dance floor...

It wasn't enjoyable at all. The food was 'OK' at best, (once you could finally get to it) and the 'all you can drink' beer didn't exactly bring out the best in the hot and short-tempered crowd. Maybe we were just there on a bad night, but you couldn't pay us to return.

If you don't have any little kids in your party, you could have a LOT more fun elsewhere.

We loved it! Here is my review: ***************/iR2qM

We don't even have kids, but I think it's great for the little ones because of the character interaction opportunities, the fact that they can run around and burn off energy, and the ability to simply leave early if you want/need to.

My DBF and I went a year or two ago, when we were around your daughters age (22). We were very excited to go but wound up rather disappointed. The show is really geared towards younger kids. The characters come out on the dance floor to dance, and parents push their kids in front of them in hope of snapping a photo. It was very crowded and there were a TON of kids. The characters were really great and danced with us, but so many moms were standing there with cameras and autograph books. Even though they made announcements that the characters would be visiting the tables later for pics and autographs, the parents just didn't get it. With that being said, the food was pretty decent, but we wouldn't do it again unless we had little ones.

I LOVE Hoop-de-doo, glad you enjoyed it. Have you done the Luau at Poly? It's not my favorite but it may be more age appropriate for you and your daughter. Good luck, let us know what you decide!

We have this booked for Sep.10. I have a 4yr old so I really think he'll love it. My only concern with it is the time. We're staying at the Poly. And we're doing the MK that day so we're going to have to leave the park at around 2 in order for DS to get a nap, cleaned up, and to travel to FW. I think we'll take a cab over to save time!

I called to cancel Back Yard BBQ after reading a couple of bad reviews. The reservation lady talked me out it and I ended up . She really talked it up and I ended up booking it for DS's birthday dinner. Does a character bring out his cake or a CM?
