50's Prime Time Review-- 6/3 -- "Only Okay" (with pictures!)
Hey everyone! It's time for our next review. My mom (Sherry), sister (Lindsay), and I ate at 50's Prime Time on 6/3 (our first day in Disney). We have eaten here several times in the past and love the atmosphere of the place. We love when we get a good "mom" who yells at us for our manners
In the past, I've had to wear a bib and sing "I'm a little teapot" in front of everyone. It's silly but it's fun to get in trouble there! A few years ago, we had a "mom" who wasn't too fun and it was kind of a blah experience. So we were really hoping for someone fun this time. Our reservation was for 4:15 and we got there a little early so we had to wait (but we were seated around 4:20 so it was on time). The place was crowded and we heard people asking to get seated who didn't have a ressie. They said they had no open tables until 9 pm! We were glad we got the reservation a long time ago (at the 90 day mark). We got seated in a room that was a little off to the side. However, we think this was okay because it was less noisy. Still, we felt a little bit out of the middle of things. Our server was pretty good. She told us to set our own table and told my mom to "hold her horses" when she asked for a lemon for a water twice. lol (It's so weird to want a mean waitress!!) She wasn't the most fun we ever had. This may also have been because the only other tables in the room were a large group with kids who were celebrating an anniversary, too. Overall, she was pretty good. Since it was our first day and our first time we were on the DDP, we all were feeling a little hoggy and so we each ordered milkshakes for our drink. My mom tried the PB&J shake which was actually really good! She and I really liked it. You could taste the peanut butter more than the jelly...kinda like a Reese's. Lindsay got the chocolate shake and I got a strawberry. Both were good! However, it was too many shakes!! Hehe...left us a little stuffed and sick before dinner came. We learned from this and layed off during the rest of the week. Lindsay got the pot roast and my mom and I split an order of the pot roast and the tuna casserol. The pot roast was good but it was a little fatty. The stringy veggies that it came which it weren't so great. They gave you a large portion and my mom said it did remind her of pot roast from here childhood. The tuna casserol was a little spicy and just so-so. The tuna came as a piece of tuna just plopped on top of the noodles. I like tuna casserols where the tuna is mixed in with the past and baked with it. So the meals were okay, but they weren't that great. Now, dessert got a little rushed because we were trying to make the last show of Beauty of Beast for the day. Lindsay tried to s'mores which she really liked! They came with about 8 "s'mores"- 8 marshmellows on top of graham cracker and chocolate (sorry, I guess that's self-explanatory! ) Mom tried the angel food cake with berries (remember, we already had dessert with those shakes! lol). It was kinda blah she said and wouldn't reorder it. I tried Dad's brownie sundae that came with a brownie, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, and caramel popcorn!! It was HUGE!!! If we weren't on the DDP, this one sundae would have been more than enough for all three of us. It was very tasty!! But sadly, I was so full and we were in a rush! So I only got to enjoy a few bites. We've really loved this restaurant in the past because we usually have a lot of fun messing around with the waitress. But for the last few times, our waitresses haven't been so interactive. We saw other waitresses really 'yelling' at their 'kids' for getting up without being excused, putting their elbows on the table...it was very funny! So, while our waitress was okay, she wasn't the best. Also, while the shakes and desserts were very good, the entrees left a lot to be desired. We don't think we'll being going back next time...we'd rather save our table-service credits for when we're in Epcot. Here's Lindsay looking at desserts through the view finder: Here's us at our table: Pot roast: Tuna casserol: Angel food cake w/ berries: Half-eaten s'mores: Dad's brownie sundae: |

Thanks for your honest review.
We've experienced the same thing on recent trips to 50's. In the past, the servers put on a real show and the menu had more variety and "home cooked" appeal. Now, the "show" is just kind of lackluster and usually it's super noisy and has a rushed feeling, too. We've found the menu is not at all like it used to be. We miss the main course variety of home cookin' favorites and my family doesn't want to return. It's sad that it has lost that spark that made it so much fun to eat there and be a part of the "family." |

Thanks for your review. I agree with you on the tuna. It doesn't look right just laying on top.
We have eaten at the 50's for the past 2 times we have been there. We wanted to eat at the Sci Fi for something different on our upcoming trip but they were booked up already during the dinner hour and we didn't want to eat after 8. So we are at the 50's again. Last year I had the steak and it was very good. My DH gets the chicken. That too is one of the best.
