How many people does 1 bag of chips serve?

I'm trying to plan for my upcoming class reunion. We are having sandwiches, chips, cookies and cupcakes. If we are expecting around 100 people (about half being kids), how many bags of chips should we get?

In my house 1 bag serves 2 ppl, me and DH. We go through those things in about a day

Seriously, you've got to remember that a FULL bag is only actually about HALF FULL. That's because of the air inside to keep the chips from breaking during transit. I can't tell you how many bags for 100 ppl, but it might not be cost efficient.

lays bag says "serving size 1 ounce"

that would be a few chips on a lunch plate. not a bag next to you during a three hour movie. hehehehehe

Don't know if you're trying to be funny or not, but I meant the large bags of chips, not individual ones.

Really, I think it depends on what else you are serving. Will you have dips? If so, then probably more than if you just served Lays chips with a hot dog. How many other sides will be available?

Depends on the chips. If it's... say... plain old chips from Walmart or Food Lion, one bag will last several days for all of us.
HOWEVER, If Its Blair's Death Rain XXX Habanero chips (http://www.extremefood.com/shop/prod...1&cat=9&page=1)... ONE bag will last me one night if I'm not restrained.
If it's THESE... http://www.kettlefoods.com/our-all-n...lley-chipotle/ then they don't stand a chance. Everyone joins in and a bag hasn't a fighting chance.
If they are regular chips (IE ridges, BBQ, Sour cream, Dill, etc) they will still get eaten, but not like the ones above.

These are pretty good too!

Not the answer you intended... but worth reading I hope.

if its a jumbo bag of doritos my Dd and I polish them off in about 2 days. However in public i like to appear like less of a pig so i would say a variety mix of different kinds of chips and i would guess about 5 bags.

I would buy one large bag of chips for every four people (maybe five or six children - if they are young) because you are serving them as a side to the meal. If you were serving another meal and just had chips to snack on you could get away with less

If you can get your hands on the extra large bags of chips (I think they call them "family size" or "XXL" size or something clever) then you could probably safely get 10 bags and be covered. If you get the normal/average sized bags, I would lean more toward 15-18 bags, which could run into a lot of money.
I think Costco carries the individual bags in 36 bag flats. Believe it or not, it may be cheaper to go the single serving chips AND you'd have several varieties. Worth looking into. Good luck, and have a great party.

why not get the individual serving size bags? The thought of a bowl of chips and everyone scooping out what they want off the buffet line is kind of skeevy.

We had 4 bags for 25 people for a luncheon on Friday, nearly 2 full bags were left. At something with other food, most people only take a handful.

If you have a GFS near you, they have these really really large bags for like 2.99. We got 4 of them for my DSs open house. We had 300 people, but we also had lots and lots of other foods. If you are only have sandwiches, chips and desserts, I would think you will need 10 bags of the GFS ones and maybe 25 of the normal size ones.

The problem with the normal sized ones is they keep lowering the amount of chips you get in a bag. 12 years ago I worked for a snack company and our standard size bag was 16ozs, now I think they are around 10.

I also like the idea of the individual servings. I don't put anything on my plate that everyone's nasty hands has been into.

If someone will be serving them, and wearing gloves, then I agree w/ 1 bag per 4 people.
