Leftover Southwest Ticketless Funds
First of all Moderators this is not a solicitation but if board rules require you to delete it, I understand.
My question is how do you all sell your ticketless travel funds, I looked on Ebay and I have sold other items on there with no hassle but my concern is the travel funds have the same number as my existing reservation, so what is to prevent someone from canceling my existing reservation and using those funds??? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance. |

i've only ever sold mine to friends... and i am confident that my friend would not "steal" my vacation! LOL!
my best advice would be to wait until after you travel to sell your ticketless travel funds on ebay, that way your trip cannot be messed with... i cannot think of a "safer" way

certainly a viable alternative...
but that doesn't solve the "how to be sure the purchaser does not mess w/the remainder of my ressie" issue that the OP was inquiring about...

or a possibility would be to call and add something. Like with the new TSA rules that aren't really in effect, you could call and add a middle initial/name. You should get a new confirmation number and email.

SWA used to issue a new res number when you re-booked/changed and got lower fare but now uses the same number although you CAN cancel and rebook thus getting a new res number as opposed to the change my reservation route.
I wonder if they did this for this reason? You would be giving an ebayer/craigslister all the info they need to cancel/change and use your funds to book a flight. Under the old system I have sold funds on e-bay and I guess, like mentioned you could still do when you return. Seems like only solution.

An idea?
I think you could use the credits to purchase a fully refundable ticket in order to generate a brand new confirmation number for the credits to be linked to, then cancel that fully refundable ticket, get the difference back on your credit card, and keep the credit attached to the new confirm number. I haven't tried it, just seem to think that's what others have said in the past. Anyone see why this wouldn't work?

You control the booking and it changes the reservation number to a new one

This is a little off topic, but I am bummed because I have 2 ticketless funds that expire early November, and i need a flight ticket late November. SW would not help me out at all, but extending the exp date. All they could do was when my expiration date hits, they said I can call and have a voucher sent out (minus fees) but that will be to late for me to book a new flight!

unless it has changed since i did this, with the vouchers, you can book/pay for your upcoming flights and then submit your credit card statement, the vouchers and your itinerary (or some combo of paperwork) and the vouchers entitle you to a reimbursement... which is different than ticketless travel funds which spend like "cash" when booking flights... so, yes, it will help you

Wondering how you are making out with this. I have almost $500 in credits that I will need to get rid of when we return from our Aug trip. They expire in April but I want to get rid of them ASAP when I get back from our trip because I think they are worth more to people with a further out expiration date. I have had sucess on ebay before but it is touchy, the first time the auction got pulled and when I relisted it they did sell. Wondering what experiences people are having lately.
