MNSSHP or park hopping?

Trying to keep to a budget. If you had to choose one, which would you pick: MNSSHP tickets, or park hopping feature on MYW tickets?

More info:

We'll be going for either 7 days/ 6 nights (if DH wins this battle ) or 8 days/ 7 nights (if I win!), two adults and one child (dd 5).

My dd LOVES Halloween and dressing up.

If we get PH, we'll use it probably three to four times.

My concern about MNSSHP is.. what if it rains? We'll have spent that money for a wash-out.... whereas with PH, it gives flexibility to the entire trip. But dd does love Halloween....

Your thoughts?

If it was me I would do MNSSHP. I dont have a problem scheduling my days without a hopper. 1 park a day works fine for us. Are there 2 parties during your stay? You could plan on going to the 1st one and if it gets rained out you can go to the 2nd one.

I agree with devinfl. I actually prefer to NOT park hop & just pick the park we are going to for the day & staying there. We plan around EMH, ADRs, etc. As for MNSSHP, I think it's a do not miss! The Halloween parade is my absolute favorite & other than Spectromagic, I'm not usually a big fan of the parades. I love that all the rides are pretty much a walk on & we tend to trick or treat at the end of the night when they are giving out more candy & we don't have to lug our bags around. We don't do the character meets or dance parties, since my kids are older, but your DD would probably have a ball!

BTW it did rain on our MNSSHP party night, but luckily it only lasted about an hour or two & we just put on our ponchos & kept going. You can get a rain check though & do another night as was suggested.

I, 110% prefer non-park hoppers. If you plan even in the slightest you can do without park hoppers. We did MNSSHP last year and loved it; Go and have a great time with your daughter! Whatever you choose please don't spend the extra money on a park hopper especially if your on a bud jet.

I have never paid for the hopper. We've done the MNSSHP the past three years. We all love it. I pick a park and stay there for the day. Definitely the MNSSHP tix!!!

We love to park hop and we loved MNSSHP. But, if I had to choose then I would definitley do MNSSHP rather than park hop. It's just such a unique thing to experience. And, if DD loves Halloween then she will love dressing up, getting candy, and seeing all of the characters dressed up. Oh, and the parade is cool.

There will only be one party while we're there if end up going for only 6 nights. (And it's looking like we will, just found airfare for much cheaper if we do the 6 nights.)

Okay, how does this look for a tentative schedule?

Day 1 (Sat): Travel, check-in WL around 6 PM, head to MK for a couple hours

Day 2 (Sun): Epcot open to close (break in afternoon if needed)

Day 3 (Mon): DHS open to ? (whenever done, break in afternoon if needed)

Day 4 (Tues): AK open to ? (closes at 5), back to WL, change, MNSSHP

Day 5 (Wed): Rest day (sleep in, pool, whatever else we feel like)

Day 6 (Thurs): MK open to close (break in afternoon if needed)

Day 7 (Fri): Catch Magical Express back to airport, travel, home

Do MNSSHP tickets cost a lot more if we wait to buy them until we're there?

Personally I would do your rest day on the day of MNSSHP. It's a good day to sleep in because MNSSHP runs late. Plus you can get in the party around 4pm so you don't want to be at AK & then going back to WL to change first.

Oh & to your answer your question, I don't think they cost any more to buy them there, but it might sell out.

With 7 (or 8) days, I would think you could do without the hoppers, you will have time to hit each park then go back where you want. I would go with the MNSSHP tickets!

did you say when you are going? I don't think the parties sell out often but I would wait to buy the tix when you know the weather forecast. If you get there and it doesn't look promising for the 1 party night, you could choose to add the park hoppers instead.

Thanks Kschafer.... we're going September 19 through 25 or 26. The party night would be Tues Sept 22.

Yeah I hear you. I'm torn on this, b/c I like the idea of having been to all 4 parks already by our rest day, so that if there's one we want to repeat for a couple hours on the rest day, we'll have that option. Plus the chance to sleep in after MNSSHP. But that AK/MNSSHP day would be a LONG day. Hmmmm.

what I did last fall was wait to buy them until I was at the resort and had seen the weather forcast for the week. that way if it was going to be a washout, I wouldn't bother, but I could still get the discount (because they were bought before the day of the party).

Ooooh, that's smart! Wasn't even thinking about buying the day before and still getting the discount. Maybe that's what we'll do--thank you!

I actually agree with you about having a day of rest the day AFTER MNSSHP as you will be tired after a late night.

The day of we usually either do Epcot or AK and just get a late start and early finish, leaving around 2:00p to go back to get ready for the party that night.

MNSSHP tickets cost more only the DAY OF so if you buy them the day before, you will still get the advance purchase price. You do, however, run the risk of a sell out.

I would go with MNSSHP. Even if it rains you will have a great time. It poured the day we went and we still enjoyed the parade and were able to get some pictures taken. My son enjoyed getting candy too.

We really enjoyed MNSSHP. It was great.

IMO hoppers take your time as well as your money. We have never paid for them and do not intend to.

So my vote without hesitation is for MNSSHP. Have a magical time at the party.
