Okay so a couple MORONIC questions from a newbie, I'm sure...but I'll embarass myself and go ahead and ask anyway!!!

First, if I want to put a "hat" on a blank Mickey head, do I just print two iron ons and cut the hat shape out?

Seond...lanyards...what do you do with them?

Third...best place to get CHEAP Tshirts...?

Fourth...can I buy T Shirt transfers at Walmart or anywhere?

Fifth...anyone put their cell phone number on their Ts incase someone (meaning my kids...greatest fear!) gets lost?

Sixth...anyone think I SHOULD NOT put kids names on shirts so strangers don't approach them and convince them Mom sent them?

Seventh...what are you printing on for things that need to be hard or laminated like luggage tags, etc...or are you printing on regular paper and getting them laminated at Kinkos or something?

PUHLEASE HELP ME! I so want to make this special for my kids with it being our first time and all!!! Thank you in advance, for any replies!!!!

There are no dumb questions...we were all new once just like you with the same questions.

First, if I want to put a "hat" on a blank Mickey head, do I just print two iron ons and cut the hat shape out?
You could do that but then you run the risk of the hat not being the right size. If you have a photo editing program, you can put the hat on the blank Mickey head before printing to ensure that it is the right size. If you don't have a photo editing program or the capability to work one...start a new thread and ask if someone can help you. Be as specific as possible in your request. Post a picture of the hat you want used, tell what colors you want the Mickey head to be, post what you are using it for, put the size you want to print, etc.

Second...lanyards...what do you do with them?
1. Lots of people make nametags and put contact information on the backside so that if someone from their group gets lost they have cell phone #'s and hotel information.
2. Pin traders use them to put their pins on for pin trading.
3. Some people use them with a holder for their park passes.

Third...best place to get CHEAP Tshirts...?
Michaels and Hobby Lobby...when their t-shirts are on sale for 50% off, you can get them for $2.00. There are also a few online places that DISers get theirs from. I think www.jiffyshirts.com is one of the websites...not sure what the others are.

Fourth...can I buy T Shirt transfers at Walmart or anywhere?
You can buy transfers at Walmart, office supply stores or hobby stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels. I have tried most of them including Avery and HP, ones from Walmart and Hobby Lobby, but I had problems with them cracking, fading or colors running when they got wet. The best transfers that I have found are www.amymickey.com. They are a little bit more expensive but worth it if you want to wear the t-shirts more than once!

Fifth...anyone put their cell phone number on their Ts incase someone (meaning my kids...greatest fear!) gets lost?
There are DISers who use the extra left over space on transfer paper to print out contact information and their children's names and iron them on the inside of their t-shirts near the bottom hem.

Sixth...anyone think I SHOULD NOT put kids names on shirts so strangers don't approach them and convince them Mom sent them?
That is a big debate...50% are for it and 50% are against it. I enjoy putting their names on shirts at WDW because CMs and characters that speak will say their name and it is sooo magical when your little one thinks that they knew their name without being told. I think if someone is targeting your child to abduct they can listen to your conversation to get their name just as easily as they can read it on a t-shirt. We have taught our children a special code word that a stranger has to give them so that they know it is safe to go with them when a parent is not around.

Seventh...what are you printing on for things that need to be hard or laminated like luggage tags, etc...or are you printing on regular paper and getting them laminated at Kinkos or something?
I print on cardstock first then either laminate at a print shop like Kinkos or Staples. Another option is to buy a laminating machine. Walmart has a very inexpensive laminating machine that is small so it doesn't take a ton of space. I bought it and use it all the time for travel games, birthday parties, name tags...the possibilities are endless.

I also love to use trading card covers for luggage tags and name tags with lanyards. The brand I use is called "Ultra Pro Toploader Series" and is 3x4 inches. You can get 35 for under $4 at Walmart (they are usually near the checkout lines with the trading cards). Make sure you get the hard trading card covers not the flimsy ones. Then punch a hole and use a cable tie to attach it to your luggage. You can also find trading card covers at Toys R Us with their trading cards and most any store that sells trading cards.

Hope your trip is magical!

Oh Dolly...you are a living DOLL! Thank you SO much for all your help! I loved your shared files and my kids are going BONKERS thinking about Tshirts, games, lacing cards, etc. THANK YOU!

I tried in Power Point to manipulate the images...would a free download of Picasa or Picaso (sp?) help with this? Would I need to "cut" around the image in the program to do this?

THANK YOU!!! MY KIDS THANK YOU!!!

I haven't used Picaso so I can't answer that question. You would need to cut around the image or find a gif or png image that already has a blank background behind the image. Check out the how to DISign using MS Word thread...it will teach you how to personalize DISigns that you find, layer images/pictures, make your own name fills, remove a white box from around an image, etc.

Here is how you download the "waltograph" font which most call the Disney font:
• Go online to www.dafont.com
• Search, find and open a font called “Waltograph”
• Click on the “Download” button
• Then click on “Open”
• Next you will need to unzip the file. In most computers, a screen will pop up with a box on the left that says “folder tasks” and in the box click on “extract files” Follow the prompts by clicking “next” and “finish” making sure that the final box has a check mark next to “show files”
• A new box will pop up. In this box, copy “Waltograph42” and “WaltographUI”. Do this by holding down your “control” button on the bottom left corner of your keyboard and click each file. Then on the top of the screen click on “edit” and in the drop down box click on “copy”.
• Next click on your computers “Start” button
• Then click on “Settings”
• Then click “Control Panel”
• Then open the file that says “Fonts”
• At the top of the font screen click on “Edit” and then in the drop down menu click on “Paste”

You can also find a font called "mickey" and "minnie" at www.dafont.com. They are good fonts to use as well for DISigns.

A great place to find images of disney characters is www.disneyclips.com to use with your DISigns. If you save them to your pictures (instead of copying and pasting) they are set up without backgrounds so they are great for layering images.

If you have MS Word go to the "How to DISign using MS Word" thread as it will teach you how to personalize blank DISigns and make some of your own like name fills:

I'm going to do my own version of the Magical Greeting Boxes in the room and I'm looking for ideas. I'm making one for each of our DSs (5 & 12) and this is what I have so far.

T-shirts for each day
Hidden Mickey book for DS 12
Mickey Ears or coupon for DS5
Glow Sticks
Coupons for Treats
Lanyards with Autograph books

I'm also going to make backpacks for each of them for the trip down that will be filled with games, etc. And I plan to have invites every day for our TS meals.

Any other ideas from anyone? I'm new to this stuff.

Here is a quick reference guide for everything posted so far:

PLANNING JOURNAL:
there are several threads that can help you plan out your trip…here are some links:

COUNTDOWN CALENDAR OR COUNTDOWN CHAIN: Mel makes countdown chains and they can be found in her thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2018621

HEARD YOU WERE COMING TO VISIT DISNEY LETTERS:
All children love to get letters in the mail and what better than to get a letter from their favorite character! Ohana90 has some in her files

TRAVEL BACKPACK:
fill it will all things Disney or travel games. For just $10 you can fill up a backpack at most dollar stores. You can find...playing cards, puzzles, crossword puzzles, coloring books, crayons, pencils, games, squeeze bottles/drink cups...the list goes on. Keep your eyes open and look in the game isle and the office supplies. Then add a luggage tag to the outside of the backpack. Also, www.momsminivan.com is a great place to find travel hints and free printable games like travel bingo, travel battleship, etc. and a long list of games to entertain kids with while you travel. Scroll through this thread to get ideas and see a picture of one mom's travel backpacks...I think on the second page: http://www.disboards.com/showthread....2005108&page=2

T-SHIRTS

INVITATIONS:
Lots of people make invitations for meals or special events like Bippity Boppity Boo Make Over, MNSSHP, or character meals. You can slide them under the hotel room door each night so that everyone has a surprise when they wake up in the morning.

Examples of invites:

Places to find Invites:
Wendy http://www.4shared.com/account/dir/1...ng.html?rnd=41
Natalie (Donatalie): http://www.4shared.com/dir/5978989/a...s_DISigns.html

WELCOME LETTERS:
you can hang these on your hotel room door or leave them in the room for your family to find.

YOU’VE BEEN GOOD TREATS:
you can leave these on the pillows for everyone in the family to find when they get back from a GREAT day at the Disney. These can also be found in Natalie's shared file under "Gift Tags".

For the treats themselves you can make gum wrappers, candy bar wrappers, nugget wrappers, life saver wrappers, mint tin covers...all made by wonderful designers and some of them make the candy look like characters themselves. You don't have to give big treats...just a small piece of candy with the letter will make anyone in your family smile. I made a lot of Telynn's and you can find them in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread....ghlight=nugget

Here is an example:

You can find more candy treat ideas in Mel’s Candy Pockets thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1980430 OR
http://www.4shared.com/dir/18450324/..._Wrappers.html

PRESSED PENNY TUBE LABELS:
there are two types one for M&M tubes to put quarters and pennies in to buy the pressed pennies and a Mentos tube to put the pressed pennies in. You give them to your children with quarters and pennies inside so they can make press pennies as they find machines all over the park. There is actually a website that lists where the machines are and what the picture is that they make. Then you can use them in scrapbooks or even make bracelets with them for girls.

LAUNDRY TUBE LABELS:
these are similar to pressed penny tubes but instead you can keep laundry money in them.

KIDS JOURNALS:
journals for your kids so that they can write in them at the end of the day so that they can have a record of the wonderful memories. Natalie has elaborate pages that you can use or you can download one that uses less ink and is set up in a Word document here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/21423885/...s_Journal.html

AUTOGRAPH BOOKS:
Penny (Chaoscent): http://s226.photobucket.com/albums/d...1Cent/?start=0
LJCollins: http://s345.photobucket.com/albums/p379/ljcollins_2008/
Natalie: http://s143.photobucket.com/albums/r132/donatalie

Example of a few autograph cards:

Threads that show different ways to assemble autograph books:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2323160
http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1919763
http://share.shutterfly.com/share/re...8AaN2Llq0btXHQ

PILLOWCASES:
If you don't want to carry around a photograph book or you want something fun to have signed at character meals, you can make autograph pillowcases. They are also great to take on a cruise and leave with a CM on the first day and they will have the characters sign them. They are also fun to make to decorate the beds in your hotel room.

EPCOT PASSPORTS:
These are lots of fun to take around to the different countries in Epcot and CM’s from that country will stamp and write a note in their native language. Natalie has some great Epcot Passports that you can make for your family in her file http://s143.photobucket.com/albums/r132/donatalie or here is another thread with a different passport DISign: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2195829

DOOR MAGNETS:
If you ever go on a Disney cruise you will need to make magnets for your door. Milliepie has some wonderful DISigns in her files:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/19077581/...0/sharing.html

FISH EXTENDER:
you will have to make or buy a fish extender and participate in a gift exchange if you go on a Disney cruise. Here is a link to Fish Extender thread so you can find out what it is and how it works: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

CAST MEMBER (CM) APPRECIATION CARDS:

LUGGAGE TAGS / BACKPACK TAGS

MONEY ENVELOPES:
these are great for restaurant gratuity, mousekeeping and for separating spending money for your family members. Mcraft17 has some great envelopes: http://www.disboards.com/showthread....ping+envelopes

STROLLER TAGS / STROLLER LICENSE PLATES:
here are two places to find them http://www.4shared.com/dir/18428241/...d/sharing.html or http://s387.photobucket.com/albums/o...isney%20Stuff/

DISNEY DOLLARS:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1756989
Make a chore chart for each child and at the end of the week give them "Disney Dollars" to keep in a Disney money envelope (look for DISigners that make these on this site). The "Disney Dollars" represent the money that they have earned and can spend while at the World. It is fun for them to collect and if they loose them...there is no real money lost before the trip. Then right before you go, count and collect the Disney Dollars and trade out for the real thing that you keep in your backpack/purse for spending money while at the World with a personalized disney money envelope. That way each child's money is secure and you can quickly tell each one how much they have left to spend.

PLACEMATS:
these are great if you are staying in a condo

Here is a thread with pictures of gift baskets made by Shirley for disney cruises...I bet you will find some cute ideas for putting one together yourself!:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1723220

COUPONS:
lots of families like to present their kids with coupons for different things like one free Mickey Ice Cream Bar, Balloon, Ornament, etc. You can find some in Natalie’s or Wendypooh’s files or at this link:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/27674250/...-_Tickets.html

I haven't posted anything new in a while and just thought of one fun thing that I have seen people doing on the boards...THROWING DISNEY PARTIES! Some people throw a "Disney" party for their family (or get the group together that they are going with) to celebrated one month (or however long that you want to celebrate) until their trip. Other people throw a party as a way to tell their kids they are going to Disney.

Finally "Iluv2go2disney"...is planning on throwing a dinner party for her family the night before they leave on their trip. She is using animal prints as a way to surprise her family that they are going to be staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you want to do something similar...look in my 4shared files in the link in my signature, then look in the "parties" file for some fun printable things.
