Swan/Dolphin-- fees mandatory?

I keep seeing some good deals on the Swan/Dolphin but then am I right that you have to pay $20 on top for resort fees and self-parking? That is CRAZY.

I remember the resort fee used to be optional, I think? Is it true you have to pay it now even if you don't want the bottled water it apparently buys?

Also, anyone know the extra fee for more than two adults per room?

Trying to decide if it's really going to be worthwhile to book here.

Smile It's Still A Bargain!

Try getting a rate under $200 at any of the other Epcot Area resorts. I'm currently booked at the Dolphin for $159 (gov't rate) per night for Memorial Day week. Additional adults are $25 per person, per night. Even with a $10 daily resort fee and $10 daily parking, its still a good deal. I have a car booked from National for a couple of hours to bring us from the airport, then I'll drop it off at the Dolphin to avoid parking fees. I'll do the same for the trip back to the airport at the end of our visit. I'm also a member of Starwood Preferred Guest (loyalty program). As a state gov't employee, I find it hard to justify staying at the Yacht & Beach or Boardwalk when it's so much more affordable to stay at the Dolphin. The only thing I'd be missing is the Dining Plan (not interested anyway) and Magical Express.

Yeah, I guess it's still a good deal but those extra fees just seem so unnecessary that I'm not sure I want to stay there on principle!

I have stayed at the Swan before and loved it, but this was before the parking fee. We will be driving down so there's no way to avoid that extra money.

Thanks for the response! Definitely something to think about.

We used to be able to get them to waive the resort fee and do without the 'benefits' that went with it, a newspaper at your door every morning is all I remember it being, but no more. We've stayed at S/D several times since this went into effect, but we don't rent a car anymore so no parking fee for us.

Fees haven't been reported here as 'waivable' for well over a year now, closer to two.
Still, with the fees, a good deal.

Just to clarify - the $10 mandatory resort fee isn't just for bottled water - it includes the following...

Up to 60 minutes free local telephone calls, toll free and credit card access calls

20 minutes of Domestic long distance per day

Unlimited access to Resort’s health club facilities

In room High-Speed Internet Access

2 bottles of water daily

Many other hotels charge for internet access, phone calls & use of the health club, so I think the $10 fee is actually a pretty fair deal. We do use the Internet & bottled water, so it's worth it to us. We always say we'll use the health club but never find the time. Once I lost my cell phone, so the free long distance came in handy as well. Now if you don't use any of the above services then I can see how it would be frustrating to have the fee be mandatory. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, you can't beat the room price of S/D for an Epcot area deluxe hotel!
