DDP vs DxDP with kids

Hello everyone,

We traveled in November and used the DDP and loved it! We are planning another trip in March 2010 and are debating if we should use the DxDP. We love to do Character Meals and we will be staying at BLT so we'll have access to the monorail for more flexibility in restaurant accessibility too.

My only concern is that is the DxDP too much with kids? Has anyone done it with children, if so we'd love to hear about your experience. Thanks so much.

We did it in Jan '08 with two kids, then 6 and 9-turning-10, and had a great time. Both of my kids enjoy eating out and the oldest is quite the little foodie, so we were able to enjoy a nice mix of character dining, casual TS, signature dinners, and room service. It made for a nice, slower pace to doing Disney, which DH especially appreciated. After our first trip, which was fun but crazy, he joked that he needed a vacation to recover from our vacation. For most of our days, we planned either breakfast or lunch at a 1 credit TS and then a signature dinner, and it didn't feel like too much food or too much time away from the parks at all. We don't take mid-day breaks, so having a late breakfast/early lunch made for a nice mini-break without the hassles of travel back to our own resort.

After doing the deluxe plan once, I can't see our family going back without it. We'll be on the DxDDP again in Sept! DS is 11 now and terribly excited about ordering off of adult menus, and we're planning on booking 6 signature dinners over 9 nights.

We went DxDP for a week with a not-quite-four-year-old and two-year-old twins. It really helped us keep them on their normal schedule, and the few CS meals we did reinforced for me why I preferred sit-down meals.

Every family is different, of course, but it worked well for us.

We did the DxDP last year for free dining and we are doing it again this year. We absolutely loved the longer midday break with a sitdown meal. Our kids are used to sitting at restuarants, so they didn't meltdown at all teh sit down meals. Also, the DxDP gave us the chance to try a couple of signature restaurants (which were my DD5's favorites).

We're doing the DxDP in June with a 6 year old and 4 year old. I am able to do CRT and HDDR, plus looking forward to some room service. We've also booked 3 character meals (in addition to CRT), Citricos (but the kids will be with my parents at Kona that night) and Chefs de France and Teppan Edo. I'm really looking forward to the DxDP and may upgrade our free dining in September to deluxe...
