Help: child with disabilities and excursions

Hi, all. We are going on a May cruise with stops in Key West, Grand Cay, Cozumel and Castaway Cay. I have a little girl who's four and a boy who's six with mild cerebral palsy. He can walk, but he gets very unnerved by crowds or loud noises. He loves things that go, animals, all things Disney!

We are trying to figure out which excursions could be great for the kids I have been warned that going on glass-bottom boats isn't a good idea as a lot of people get sea sick. Any and all advice MUCH appreciated!

We have done the semi-submersible submarines in both Grand Cayman (Nautilus) and in Cozumel. We thought the one in GC was much better. They move so slow there was no problem with motion sickness and my DD is very prone. The Turtle Farm is interesting but it was very crowded around the tanks. I'd avoid Stingray City because even on a sandbar, the water can be swift and kids can get knocked off their feet. They wear a safety vest though but the sting rays can be very active. That may unnerve him. The pirate cruise in GC was a blast. The pirates are fun, kids swab the deck, and get to walk the plank and jump into the water. Again, they wear a vest. You don't have to swim. Once on board, you can go to the shore excusion desk and ask for suggestions.

We have a child with sensory integration issues who also gets a little freaked out in very loud, crowded or chaotic situations. We've had good luck with snorkel/sail excursions in all of the ports (sometimes we stay on the boat during the snorkeling). In Cozumel, we've also done well at Chankanaab and Xcaret. Although those parks CAN get crowded, there are a number of quieter areas and plenty of things to do at both places. Not sure about GC, we haven't been there in a long time.

to the DIS boards! I am moving your post to the main cruise board where you will get more replies. You can also check out the DIS DCL FAQ thread stuck at the top of that forum. If you go to KIDS CLUBS there is a kids with disabilities link to a thread with LOTS of great information. Hopefully some of it will be able to help you.

I hope you have a great trip! We also have two sons with cerebral palsy, and the whole cruise (characters, Kids' club, Castaway Cay....) was GREAT for our kids! It really was a very, very special trip for us.

We tried a couple of excursions, and while they were fun, for us with our boys, the boat was much more fun and accessible. So, when we return for our 2nd cruise this fall, we're going to stay on the boat! There is just so much to do on the boat, and all the CM's did such a great job adapting to our kids, I just think we'll stay with Disney themed events (but we do go ashore on CC)!!!

If there is a problem with crowds I might be cautious about tendering in Grand Cayman as the tenders can get mighty packed.
