geranium question

Hi! I bought beautiful red geraniums last summer and hung them in baskets on my porch. I brought them in for the winter. Now I am not sure how to prep them for good regrowth, etc. They have some new leaves. But entire parts are just brown but feel tender- they are not dried like they are dead. What do you recommend I do with these parts? Prune them down to the dirt? Or will they start to sprout?
Thank you!

I am not a plant expert by any means, but I had some geraniums and
found that they sprouted on their own--I really didn't do anything to
help them. Maybe someone will answer you that has some plant
knowlege but I found that mine were pretty resilient.
