Never thought of it, but you're right.

I wonder if JK Rowling knew of that song.

I know this isn't on B'way, more like off off off off off off off off off off off off off B'way, but one of the local community theater companies I perform with is considering doing the Secret Garden next season. I am so pyched over this I stand it. I have been wanting to play Archibald Craven for years. I love the songs A bit of Earth and Lilies Eyes, I've sung both before, just never in the context of the show. I just had to mention this.
Our theater group did Secret Garden about 6 years ago....the music is incredible. It was a good production but it was miserable getting there. It's incredible what a moody director can do to a cast!!! But, oh...Lily's Eyes..my God, it was beautiful. Actually thought about doing it again this year, but we're doing Sweeny Todd..so figured we wouldn't do two dark shows in a row..need something a wee bit lighter.

The community theater (Northport/East Northport Community Theater) that my nieces have done shows for is planning a Disney kind of year--the spring show will be Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderellas & the fall show is the Disney version of Beauty & the Beast. Their mom, my baby sister, plays the violin in the orchestra. Dad & I go to all the shows, but it's so much more fun when it's a show we're looking forward to.

Add me to the list of Secret Garden fans. I loved this show! I saw it on Broadway twice, and it was just fantastic. I listen to it on my iPod all the time. "Lily's Eyes" is an incredible song, and I loved "How Could I Ever Know."

There's a sad story I remember reading about "Hold On" from that show as well - Daisy Eagan, who won the Tony for her performance as Mary, learned that her mother was dying while she was in the show, and that she often had a tough time holding it together during that song (she was only 11). They say the actress playing Martha would just hug her even tighter during that song if she started to cry.

Yes, we did get to see Little Mermaid....row P, dead center!!! And no one seated directly in front of us..not bad for $62 tickets. And they were filming a segment for Extreme Home Makeover there that night...4 rows in front of us...maybe we made it into the shots.
Kat did quite well at the Wicked workshop. Her 'For Good' project won..which meant I can now say that my dd has sung on Broadway. They brought her back up onstage to accept her certificate of Master of Good Deeds, and she got to sing For Good with the actors. It was just incredible. Then she got to take a backstage tour after the matinee....I went with her, as did her two friends from her troop that were there. A great day all the way around. Of course, since she was doing the backstage tour, she missed stage dooring. So, because we were staying just across the street, I told her we could stage door after the show that night. Left the hotel at 10:30 and waited for the show to end. Got some autographs, as well as photo with our tour guide (has been with Wicked for over 5 yrs), but evidently there was a going away party for a cast member, so Nicole (Elphaba) didn't get out until close to midnight, and through an exit on the other side of the bldg, But some kind soul told my dd that and she flew over to that exit. Caught Nicole just as she and her boyfriend were coming out. They actually walked, with Kat, over to meet me so I could take a photo....really very nice of them.
Now to look forward to seeing some stuff in London in two weeks.
That was definitely one of the more random occurances I've had at the TKTS booth. Too funny how we pieced that one together!

Glad you got to see Little Mermaid! I have yet to see that one. It looks like fun, and I love the movie. I saw my first Broadway show in that theater (Peter Pan) when I was 5.

In The Heights was really fantastic. I got the cast album off iTunes as soon I got home and I can't stop listening to it, especially "96,000", I think that's my favorite song. My folks are still raving about it too.

Congrats on having a Broadway star this weekend! That is so cool that she got sing on stage. I saw Wicked wayyy back when it first opened (with Karen!), and I'd love to go see it again eventually. It's a great show.

Wicked is playing in London, and it seems like it's just as popular there as it is here. I heard the London production of Hairspray is fantastic too. The only show I saw when I was there was Billy Elliot, and that was so good I saw it twice. London is amazing - you'll have a great trip!

that's so sad that her mother was dying while she was in the show, but that shows she's a pro. Have you seen her acceptance speech for that Tony? Here's the link to Youtube:

That would be two dark shows, although it would be a very good season. Even though Secret Garden is a bit dark, it still has a happy ending when Archibald Craven accepts the death of his wife and moves on.

I know it's not always fair to bring another thread into a discussion, but I just wanted to applaud you CCT for being a great person & apologizing on the thread about corrupt politicians. Great job, but not that I'd expect anything less from a guy that loves theater.

Well now you've gone and done it. I guess people have said what they needed to. I'm hoping to come up with something else to get this thread going again. Any ideas?
