through the sunroof, i wanted to take some things from a different perspective, this was one. i liked the contrast of colors and the ornately carved stonework

From yesterday Old Textile Mill building tower, built in 1877. Now used as office and retail space, and my sons high school.
Canon 40D, iso 100, 17-40mm @ 17 mm, f/8, 1/25, AWB

keeping the old building theme going, i took one of these in film yrs ago but this one last weekend, Terminal Tower again, this time in the windows across the st. if only the building was a little taller i could have gotten the tip of it in

bumping up the thread with a shot from a couple yrs ago. i realized yesterday i could never be a say national geographic photog( i mean other than for the more obvious reason

) when a hawk caught a bird in mid air and landed with it right by my front door, i opened the door not to take a photo of the struggle, but to scream at the hawk ( didn't do any good, it just took off with the bird in it's talons ) and envisioned myself on the plains of Africa screaming "drop that gazelle" at a lioness

so my form of nature photography:

I can't post any yet because I don't have the camera with me, but I bought a new Canon Rebel XS yesterday...was thrilled to bits to find out that the Speedlite flash and 70-300mm zoom lens (as well as another lens, but I can't remember the specs) that I used with my Rebel 2000 were compatible.

YAY tax refund time!

I'm going to try to get out and do some shooting tomorrow (downtown, while at work) and over the weekend (out at the lake) and see how I like it.

Brand new to DSLR, matter of fact to SLR in general and brand new XSi I just received from UPS today. Below pics are with the kit lens and on full auto, no post processing.

Now it's time to read the rest of the manual and learn how to properly use this camera. Don't worry I have some non kit lenses on order. Hopefully they arrive soon so I can practice with the lenses I will use most of the time.

Paper Daisy

probably can't really tell much from this size but i used a program that added a paper texture that i liked. sometimes the textures are too much but this one is fairly subtle

I took this today at Creve Coeur Lake with the kit (XS) lens; I also have a few lenses that I used with my 35mm Rebel 2000 that have worked quite nicely (80-210mm and a 35-80mm that may have been the kit lens with the 2000...I can't remember).

And this one was last night, just messin' around.

Now I just need to read the manual and learn how to actually use the thing (haven't even gotten live view yet, and it's WEIRD going back to using a viewfinder after several years!)
