is this the same little Niagara area you posted some from before? is that ice or rocks? very nice scenic area and a pretty shot...

wondering if anyone would know this...the front h20 is very soft, but along the actual falls it's not..wondering if anyone knows is this due to the speed of the water? i figure it's probably slower over the front rocks. not picking apart your photo, just i took some of really fast water and couldn't get it soft hardly at all, even using an nd filter and the slowest speed i could and wonder if the actual speed of the water would make it a difference and thought this might illustrate what i am trying to ask

I didn't even notice the halo around the bridge when I viewed it in full, I only noticed it after resizeing it. I will try different things but it depends on how how much time do I want to spend on it. Sometimes I'll try "replace color" in CS2, but this didn't work on this pic because it was to close in color with the sky, I will do clone and then use the blur brush on the area I just cloned, then sometimes after I clone the area and how it looks I'll use the "patch" tool in that area.
Here's what I came up with clone and patch tool.

No this the Cocheco river that runs through Dover, NH. This falls is actually a dam that was built to run power to the textile mill, they built the Mill right over the river, yes that is ice on the rocks.
He is another view of what you are asking about the water not looking soft, there are areas in the dam that the water is coming out from under a built up area of the dam and some spilling over.
Here's a couple shots from a different angle, 2nd one is cropped from the first one.

I'm not sure about this, but could it be that there is less blur in the water where it first starts to fall because there is less disturbance in the water at that point?

i don't know but when i was trying to take it before the water was really rough all over(posted this before but can't find it now or i would have just linked to it)
and this is 1/6, f22 with an nd filter, lowest i could get it to go. it's blurry but really not that blurry . it was overcast so that is why i wondered if the speed of the water made it harder to get a better blur( all i did was convert from raw so not the best photo )

Oops! When I first posted, the second photo wasn't showing up for some reason. Hmm, I'm thinking maybe it does look the way it does because of the way the water is falling. As in, it looks really choppy. Maybe that's why? Not sure.

I belive if you had a slower shutter speed than 1/6 it would look silker, just google blurry water falls and click on images and you'll find some fast moving falls.

I was just playing with the umbrella & stand I got for Christmas and took these. The poor pets are always subjected to my experiments. If we have kids one day, I pity them.

Jann do you have a Polarizering filter, try that it may get you some what of a slower shutter speed, I read somewhere that someone stacked the ND with a Polarizering filter to get a slower speed, can't remember where I read it though. The polarizer will generally be equivalent to two stops and what ever your ND filter is.

oh i don't know if they mind, the pup looks like he is smiling ( cute shots btw)

"freedom"

all the gulls were sitting on the warmer pavement till a car drove up and made them move. i've been working on my b&w since i got a new book on digital conversions. they mention a number of ways they feel are "better" than the older digital conversions( ie desat) this way is the first i tried... grayscale in ( lightroom) then adjusting with the grayscale sliders.
f14, 1/400 iso 100 50mm lens .
it mentions some other stuff i never thought of like not having highly exposed area by the edges so they don't look like the paper showing through, so it they are use some edge darkening .

Thanks! Actually she has an underbite, so her teeth show more often than not. She was fine with the photography session yesterday though. I just let her hang on the couch and I snapped away. Now the cat, I had to keep making noises to get him to look at me.

I really like your shot too!

i don't think i can use both as my nd filter is a cokin...it uses a step up ring to attach so i don't think i can but i'll have to check to make sure..but the cokin filters are fairly inexpensive so i can get another and use up to 3 on the filter holder.
