my daughter gets a ride into school
with the neighbors each morning. She drives over with her three children, picks up my daughter, and then drops them off - all at the same school. I appreciate it so much! I wanted to give her a gift card, both now and at the end of the school year, but I can't decide on how much. Any suggestions?

I agree. I think $25-$50 would be a thoughtful gift. I probably would go with $50.

Make sure you actually do it. When I was a kid my parents waited till the end of the year to give the lady who gave me rides to school a gift. She didn't take me the next year!

A friend of mine gets my son from kindergarten twice a week so that I don't have to leave work early. (her daughter is in the same class)
At the end of each month, I give her a little something with a little note attached and have my 5 year old sign it. I've given her Bath and Body soap, OPI nailpolish, etc. Just little things to let her know how much of a help she is and things that she can use to pamper herself just a tad. |

Absolutely $25-50. Maybe Dunkin or Tim Horton's.....whichever you have. Or if they have mentioned a restaurant they love, get one for there. We have also done the spontaneous phone call and told friends "dinner will be there soon" and had pizzas, soda, etc. delivered as a surprise.

I agree with the amount of $25-50 but Id do either a gas card, or a prepaid visa that they can use where ever they choose. I dont know about you, but extra gas money comes in handy, and will when prices go back up this summer.

She does this everyday?
I'd give her more like 100.00 - that's a steal of a deal! Maybe two 50.00 - one a more personal GC - like a mani/pedi at a local salon or a nice restaurant and another 50.00 in gas or a prepaid visa. |

I had a neighbor do this for DD. At Christmas I gave her a bottle of wine and a $50 gas gift card. At the end of the year I gave her another $50 gas giftcard and a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant. She did it for the entire three years my daughter was in middle school (she also took my son when he started). I did the same thing each year and took her daughter on a cruise with us at the start of the last year.

It it's in your means, I'd suggest at least $50, with the same or more at the end of the year.
A gas card or a restaurant card would be nice.

I have a wonderful friend who watches my kids for me for when they are out of school. (In fact, I dropped them off on Sunday afternoon and she's bringing them home tonight) She absolutely refuses to take any money for this so for Christmas this year she is getting a $50 Applebee's gift card and a $25 Starbucks gift card. I would definitely be generous with your friend who is driving your DD. She is doing you a wonderful favor!

We did this a couple years ago. The neighbor down the street watched my kids at the bus stop. (her house) It saved me from walking down there everyday, and I knew they were safe. It think we gave them a restaurant certificate that the whole family could enjoy.

I'm this person ( I drive my dd plus my neighbor's two kids to school every morning, and I pick up my dd plus my other neighbor's dd every afternoon). I would not expect to receive a gift, but I would be appreciative of one. It's really no expense to me, or extra time out of my day. Honestly, what I'd REALLY appreciate is my neighbor(s) offering to watch my kids one evening or afternoon. Time is more valuable to me than a gift card. Since she's offered you her time, maybe she'd really appreciate an evening out with her husband and not have to pay $40 to the babysitter?
