Gifts for Nursing Home staff?

I need some suggestions on gifts to give the staff of a nursing home/rehab center. My mom is there recovering from a couple of strokes, and the staff is all so good to her! I thought maybe some food trays dropped off on Christmas eve, but I'm not sure.....

Hi! How nice of you to think of the staff! I am a nurse at a NH and it's always nice to be remembered; just please remember to think of all 3 shifts- as an eve nurse (3-11) so many people would bring stuff by-on the day shift. There would be nothing but a box or crumbs for the eve and then night shift. We always loved the cookie trays or even the boxes of chocolate were greatly appreciated!

We are having the same situation. No one on the staff may accept a gift. It has to be for all. We were going to do two big sheet cakes and label them for the different shifts. Think we're going the bagel and doughnut route though. Again, there will be separate boxes for each shift. They ALL give Mom such loving care.

cookies! chex party mix! fresh fruit! fruit punch and cups! a bottle of good hand lotion to keep at the nurses station!
Us nurses like it all! and when the docs come by, we share! they love yummy stuff too and want to know where the "good stuff" is!

I work in rehab, and our favorite treats are fruit and nuts. We get so many cookies and candy that it's sometimes too much. One patient's family gave our manager a gift card to a bagel shop and she brought them to our monthly staff meeting. But more than gifts, we appreciate a nice card or a letter from family.

I am glad to hear your mom is receiving good care.

yes, we love notes too! Especially the ones addressed to administration and then trickle to us!

I agree about all three shifts, if at all possible.

When I wanted to do something really nice for my oral surgeon's office (long story, complications for an implant and many of them went WAAAY over their expected care and didn't charge me any extra) I recruited one of the receptionists as my secret helper. I ordered a fruit tray and a meat tray and had it delivered early in the week for their lunches. I got a lot of nice notes from the staff and my doctor. Being a dental professional, I didn't want to do cookies, candies or other sweets.

When my grandma was in the nursing home I bought candy, and I do agree with what the other posters said, break it up by shifts, like leave something at 2 and maybe at 4 to cover the 7-3 and then the 3-11 shift etc. I said, this is for Everyone (not just the nurses, but the aides too) etc

I also left something by my grandmas bed if she wanted to give it out, like little hard candys etc.

Go with something salty...we get a lot of sweets this time of year.

Maybe a nice tin of nuts...one for each shift. Or bagels with cream cheese.

Truly though, a nice thank you card is all that is necessary...and if you cc. it to head of the facility, even better.

I'm a third shift nurse at a NH. We love nice cards/thank you notes with CC to Admin. Fresh Fruits, Cheese/cracker trays, Cookies, Nuts, Anything not Chocolate. Some nice lotion or waterless hand santazier.

When my mother was in the hospital during the holidays we sent in lunch for the nursing staff, which was very much appreciated. It included meat, cheese, croissants, fruit and little cheesecakes.

Food is good, anything really, at least in the home I work in, we are a bunch of piggies. We also like notes to the adminstarter saying about the care and then they usually share with the staff
