Ok, so here are our creations. I did the Mickey heads then spiraled the shirts & let each kid color their own. Even the 2 year old!! Plus, they each did a plain spiral shirt. DD9 did a Mickey head shirt & then a dress from Walmart with Mickey. (It's on the far left) I think I need a few more dresses! Too cute! The baby's shirt got gum on it in the wash. Now I have to figure out how to get that out. (freezing didn't work)

I'm hoping if I try the Turquoise, Bright Green and Royal Blue it would look something like the Pixiedust shirts I was talking about. Otherwise I was considering the Lemon Yellow, Fire Red and Royal Blue together. Any opinions from my fellow tie dye addicts???
Hey everyone--thought I'd post a pic of the 19 shirts I made for my son's class trip. I know they are not Mickey head shirts but the kids are going to wear these to WDW in June. In case you are interested, I used Dharma dye. The colors are Bright Green, Turquoise, Lemon Yellow and Royal Blue.

Mickey Head - Need some assistance understanding

I am sure this question has been answered several times but I guess I'm just not seeing hit.

First you draw an outline of a Mickey Head on the t-shirt.

Second you baste the head - This is where I'm confused. Do I sew (baste) one large circle (head) and two smaller circles (ears) with thread?

Third - Pull together with large rubberband to create the white around the Mickey head?

I have tye-dyed many shirts so I know how to proceed from there. I just did not want a blob to appear.

Thanks

Are you basting the Mickley Head outline that you have drawn on the shirt then pulling the basting string?

School colors are purple and white but I promised the boys nothing too "girly" so I chose these colors.

Yes, that would be fine if you have a few shirts, it has the primary colors and the other materials you need to start.

I basted all the way around the Mickey head & ears (one long way around, not 3 separate), then pulled that super tight. I used dental floss. You really can't break it! After that, you put rubber bands super tight right where the string/floss is pulled. I went down about 1 1/2 inches into the shirt.

And I LOVE the class full of shirts!! So much fun!
