I was fun to read threw the whole thread. My husband thinks im crazy! But its such a fun activity! Pixie had such a great craft that she brought for all of us to enjoy wether it be 4 years ago or if you just discovered it for the first time.

I have only done four shirts (kiddie shirts at that) but the white I got on mine came from the thread I used. I don't think I did the rubberbands correctly because I didn't get that really thick white line that some people got. But to be honest, I kind of like the thinner line myself! I used coats and clark apolstery thread and small stitches...I also doubled the thread. It's not as good from what I hear as Dharma dyes but I used the tulip dyes. For the price and convenience...I was really happy with the outcome!!!

Really if you're only doing a few shirts or only plan on doing this as a one time thing, it'd be silly to get too involved in Dharma's stuff, at least I think so. You could always buy one of their kits though. I actually like the Jacquard kits which I know I've seen in at least Joanns and AC Moore. I find their materials to be pretty similar to Dharma.

I am an avid quilter so for me I will definitely be buying from Dharma for dyeing quilt fabric. We leave in just over two weeks (woohoo!!!) so I'm going to buy another tulip kit and do a couple shirts for the Hubby and Me...

Just a TIP!!! I apologize if this has already been mentioned...but if you want to experiment first with the tulip dyes, as I've seen some on here do (myself included) before buying from Dharma...SAVE THE SQUEEZE BOTTLES and RUBBERBANDS from the tulip kit. Save you a couple bucks or give you an excuse to buy a couple more colors that you want to try because you've already got bottles to mix them up in.

I have the bottles from my first Jacquard kit and still use them. I'd never be one to throw out a perfectly good bottle. I also built up my collection by using Joanns and AC Moore coupons to buy the Wilton squeeze bottles in the candy making/molding section. I think there's 2 to a package. I also LOVE the tiny needle nose bottles from Dharma, they work great when I do onesies.

I used Tulip Brand tye dye kit from Micheals. The instructions note the dye is only good for 45 minutes. After that it loses effectiveness. Is this true? I have two more shirts to make and am done for the day. Anyone have comments? TIA.

Some dyes do lose their intensity very quickly. It just depends on the color and the product.

Not hard at all. Just follow the instructions and I suggest buying a little more dye than you think you need. I used the Tulip kits and it says it dyes up to 8 t-shirts...in reality I got two kids shirts and a baby top and bottoms...I might have had enough left over for one more kids shirt. I'd say you could get maybe 3 adult shirts out of those three pack dye kits tops.

I just made mine and followed the directions and tips and took my time. I did one as a test tosee what I was in for and was surprised it came out ok. Figured what I could do better and now have 8 shirts in the garage in the overnight phase.

Well .... my Mickey heads came out great on 4 of 8 shirts! I just didn't use enough dye for the rest of the shirt and have large white patches. But I tried, I conquered, I learned and I have 4 more shirts to do! You can tell they were home made and I like it.

has anyone done red and green for christmas and can they post pics? I want to do some for christmas day but want to make sure they look ok before i do them.
