Not sure about online, but AC Moore has Gildan 100% cotton tshirts on sale all the time- usually 4 for $10, and sometimes cheaper. They're nice shirts, too... not flimsy ones.

I've read about people using sodium bicarbonate from Home Depot (or a pool supply place). But that's actually different from what you buy from Dharma Trading.. that's sodium carbonate, right? I read somewhere that bicarbonate doesn't change the PH as much. Is that a problem for tie-dying? Or does the bicarbonate work just as well?

Thanks!

I don't know where you read that, but if you want your shirts to get the dye fix DO NOT buy Bicarbonate you MUST get SODIUM CARBONATE AKA PH UP.

Bicarbonate does nothing, it would be useless and you'll just waste your money and time.

I suggest you not to get it from Dharma because it will cost you more on shipping. Depending on how many shirts you are making, if you only making 5-7 depending on the size too. You'll only need about a small container, 2 cups about 16 oz. You can purchase small amounts in the craft stores but the best deal would be at wal mart they have smaller bottles and Home Depot, Lowes etc they have bigger jar for about $10.00.

Please make sure you get SODIUM CARBONATE PH UP... Otherwise you'll be wasting your money....

Most of the hoodies in the retail stores are a blend 50/50 or 70/30 not 100% . You can buy the from Dharmatrading.com but they have zipper in the front and they are expensive, about $23.00 a piece they also have 80/20 you can tie dye them but it wont be as vibrant as 100% cotton. Those are $18.00 each plus shipping.

I don't think my HD/Lowes/etc carries this stuff in the winter (we're in Massachusetts). At least, when I called, they had no clue what I'm talking about. When I look online for PH Up, everything I find says it's sodium bicarbonate, which I know is not what I want.

You don't have a link or anything to the specific product you're talking about, do you? It seems like there are a lot of things called "PH Up".

Sorry, and thanks.

Normally Home Depot carries that year round if you go to the pool chemical I had never seen many items called the same chemical compound. There is PH UP and PH down. You need PH up.
If you can't find it there you can order from Dharmatrading.com

Refresh my memory

I can't recall this step...
When I pull the floss tight and pucker up the mickey head...
Do the rubber bands go below the floss, above the floss or right on top of the floss?

I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Dharma and I should be well into my shirt-making process by early next week, so I am mentally prepping now

The floss is the marking point on where your ears start so you want to put the rubber bands in top, not above because you would get chopped ears.

Yeah...that makes complete sense! I clearly didn't think that through! I normally use a significant amount of floss and wrap it around the cinched part REALLY tight. I just drew a complete blank about where to put the rubber bands b\c I read (not on here) somewhere that it said not to put the rubber bands on the floss\thread. Whereas I thought I had always wrapped some rubber bands super tight arount the floss in the past. OK, thanks for the calrification!!!

On separate note, it seems like the department stores have just restocked for Spring. I struggled to find plain white SS T-shirts for my girls up until this week. All I could find were LS T-shirts. I was going to order online but wanted to make sure they had the right fit (versus a plain boy's cut). Now I see them everywhere (Target, JC Penny, Walmart, Old Navy, Kohls...)

Thank you for the heads up on the short sleeves, I really like the girls style shirts and same here, everywhere just LS, I figured after Valentines the spring items would be ready to go.

Mixing the dye

Got all my goodies from Dharma yesterday (woohoo!). Now for mixing them, does nayone knw where to get small funnles? I saw them on the Dharma site but that was after I already received my dyes in the mail. Just curious if anyone has seen them at JoAnn Fabrics or Michael's?
