Questions on Room Vs People

ok.. it may get a bit confussing but I will try my best to explain..

DH & I have a Cat 6 room reserved and connecting to our friends *hub & wife* They have 3 kids, none of them are on the reservation at the current moment.. They would like to get a 2nd room, a Cat 11 for her parents and niece..

Now my questions..

Cat 6 only hold 4 and our friends have a family of 5.. with that we need to add 1 of their children somewhere..

So... Is it more expensive to add 1 of the 3 kids in our Cat 6 or in the Grandparents Cat 11?

Does it cost extra by age of the children? or it is just a "body" no matter what age or what Cat ?

We will have 3 rooms, 2 cat 6s & 1 cat 11 with 6 adults and 4 kids all together *5, 13, 14, 15*

So where do we put everyone for the best price possible?

The kid rate varies by age. I know that over age 12 is $200 more than under age 12. I'm not sure where the other break point is....

Under 3, you pay only port taxes and fees, no cruise fare
3-? lower cruise fare
?-12 higher cruise fare
12-adult higher fare + $200

Hope this helps. The amount of the cruise fare varies with the cruise dates.

Adding a kid to a cat 11 is the same as adding to a cat 6. It varies by age of child. There is an additional upcharge at the suite level.

It will be easiest to put as many kids as possible in the cabins where they will actually sleep so that their keys work the room. Guest Services will issue the mom a "blank" KTTW so that she can get into the other room if needed. This KTTW won't work for charging or boarding, but will get her into the sleep room.

It generally should be cheaper to have two of the kids in the Cat 11. If you have a travel agent, they can price out the best configuration. If not, go to the DCL website and price out the difference with the 5 yo and a teen in each catagory to see your best price.

keep in mind that some cat 6s and 11s only sleep 3. we move kids around sometimes too but always send them to the safety drill for the room they are assigned to. I would think disney wouldn't like the idea of people switching rooms and guess I never wanted to make it obvious to the safety officers.

I hate to rain on the parade but safety implications always linger in my mind, altho can't imagine such an emergency... remember that movie "bounce" and altho fictional could see how an incorrect manifest could cause confusion.

We don't have a travel agent..
and I can't use the DCL website, because we already have 2 cat 6s booked, that have been booked for awhile, so the price i'm sure is alot more then it was when we booked them last year.. I guess if I really do all the math of what the cruise cost, compared to what it is now, take that difference off.. then add the kids by ages.. maybe it would give me a round a bout price..

We have 2 connecting 6s so it would not really be an issue of what key opens what door..

Thank You for the information, it helps.. but all 3 will be over 12 and the 6 year old will be in the cat 11

have you thought of transferring reservation to a travel agent? We have done that in the past and with shipboard credit have come out ahead. Don't think you can do that after final payment made - not sure what your dates are. If you used someone like dreams unlimited the agent will research the options and help you set something up. Good luck.

No, we normally don't use a TA. We book while on a cruise to get the 10% off and $200 ship credit.. Sometimes when we are really lucky we get the Florida rate too
We set sail 9/12/09

I know in the past we have booked on board, gotten the discount AND transferred to agent. I specifically remember because as cruise time approached we needed to use DVC points and had to transfer the reservation back to disney BEFORE they would even give us a quote on points. perhaps i am not remembering this correctly... ??

Dreams will keep an eye out for the FL res rate and adjust your account automatically for you. You can also usually get an additional OBC from them so you would come out ahead. You can still make your resies at the 90 day rate.

Don't worry about the one child being listed in one room and sleeping in another. This is done more often than you know. I know of two families who were able to add a family member to the EB PC Repo in 8/08 but to do so a month before the cruise they person had to be added to another DISer's stateroom. They slept in the room with their own family. You can be sure that in 15 days the room steward knew who was staying in the room. All you will have to do at GS is have the child's KTTW card redone to be able to access the room that you want them to sleep in. Of course, then you have to worry about the sleeping arrangements, but just tell your room steward what sized life jackets you will need in case there is a drill when the 5th person is in the room.

Thank You everyone!!

I was just trying to find out which way would save them the most money as to where to add the 3rd child to which room.. Ours in a 6 or the Grandparents in an 11

I guess I can call DCL in the morning and ask them

I posted it here, cause I didn't know if someone in the same situation has had to deal with this before and new the price breakdown
