Ellen - I just love reading your reports. I have showed the DH your excursions and said how you booked them on your own and how much fun you have had. He is just not that adventurous (sp) to book something not through the cruise line. He worries about something going wrong or getting ripped off or missing the ship. So, I am happy reading it through your experiences.

Oh, you have another reader waiting for the next trip report in 2010!

I'm so glad you like reading my TR! Thanks so much! I'm sorry your DH is too worried to book an excursion on his own, but I understand- I wasn't worried about getting ripped off because I chose excursions other people on these boards have done, and I also wasn't worried about something going wrong (like not being able to dock in Grand Cayman) but the excursions both had clauses that stated we would not be charged if the ship couldn't get into port. I worry about missing the ship, too- but we were very careful to always come back early, we didn't wait until the last minute. I would gladly have done this all through DCL if it had been offered, but unfortunately it wasn't. It would have been nice to have that safe, Disney is in charge kind of feeling that I'm sure you have when you book one of their tours. Hopefully I'll be booking something through them the next time! And I'm so glad I'll have 2 readers now for that report!

Well, good news- after installing 1 GB more of memory, and spending hours on the phone with Dell, McAfee etc, my computer is now running well again!! Gosh, that is soooo frustrating!! It was all because I had some tiny piece of another security system left on my hard drive that I wasn't even aware of. Plus the McAfee was slowing everything down because it uses so much memory. Soooo...for the third and final time, I'm going to write about Pirate Night!

It's Pirate Night, Me Hardees...ARGHHHH!

OK...here we go- the third times a charm!

A pot of coffee and a shower later, I was awake again and ready to go. I left DH and the boys and said I'd meet them at Lumiere's for dinner, because I wanted to stop in the ship's shops and scope out which Christmas ornament I'd buy, which tshirts I'd buy, which pins I'd buy...well, you get the idea. I got to Lumiere's, and my family wasn't there yet. That was strange. Wonder where they could be? About 10 minutes later, DH and the kids came in, and DH's skirts were all in a twist over the fact that they had been waiting for me out in front of the restaurant for 15 minutes! Oops. Looks like I missed them when I went in the other door! Anyway, we were all in pirate bandanas, the boys were wearing ones given to them in our FE and DH & I were using the ones Disney provides on the table. DS11 started the evening off by impaling Capt Hook with his knife-

Ouch! That's GOTTA hurt. Anyway, are you ready for some food porn? Because I've got a ton! Both DH & I had to have Black Beard's Jumbo Crab Cake with a fruit salsa and honey-lime tropical coleslaw-

Yum yum yum on that one!! DS11 tried Pearls of the Caribbean- crabmeat, shrimp and salmon mixed in pearls of couscous with lemon grass infused vinaigrette-

But of course he also had to try some of DH's crabcake!

We shared a Hideaway Bay Salad- romaine lettuce mixed with Caeser dressing with garlic and parmesan shavings and jerk spiced croutons-

DS9 decided to make good on his precruise revelation that yes, on a cruise you CAN eat steak every night and ordered one from the kids menu-

Of couse, who wouldn't want staek every night when Christian was always there to cut it up!

And because DS9 was having an eye-patch problem, Christian fed him, too!

Ya know, i really wish they'd step up the service on DCL a bit- poor DS9 actually had to feed HIMSELF part of the time!

DS11 was busy inhaling (literally) Treasure of the Seas Grilled Shrimp and Seared Scallops served on strings of pasta and fresh creamy tomato sauce-

I was having The Black Pearl's Oven-Roasted Beef Tenderloin with sour cream chive smashed potatoes, sugar baked carrots with a deep Red wine glaze-

And DH tried Jack Sparrow's Musked Smoked Pork Shank on soft herbed polenta, roasted onion and tomato stew with a light barbeque glaze-

You know, I'm taking these descriptions right off the menu, and they all look a little off- but the food was wonderful, nonetheless! More in the next post...and yes, i am holding my breath-

Pirate night cont'd..

In between all the food, we were busy putting tatoos all over ourselves- the ones from our friends in our FE's and the ones on the table from DCL. Fitz, the head server, paid us a visit- he is one happy, happy guy!

DH & DS11 contemplated what to eat next-

The crew came over to sing Happy Birthday to our table mates-

And then the pirates started acting up!

They got ready to Limbo...

And of course, Christian came to get the boys-

I really miss that happy face in my life!! And this one-

Dessert time! DS9 hadChocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce from the children's menu-

DS11 had Walk the triple Layered Chocolate Gangplank Cake

DH & I shared Shiver-me-Timbers White Chocolate Cheesecake on a macadamia barnacle bottom-

After dessert, DS9 decided he was exhausted and wanted to go to bed! No amount of begging could convince him to go to Deck 9 for the Party!! But he really was that tired. So we went back to the cabin and saw this cute fella-

DS11 put on a bunch of glow bracelets, glasses, necklaces- all from the FE exchange (thanks again everyone! ) and the three of us went up onto the windy deck 9-

And right after this photo was taken, DS11 said that he too was tired and wanted to go to bed!! Ok- so DH & I did our family's first Pirate party alone!!!

Next- pics from the party-

Ellen,

Your trip report is a tease! DD and I did a little shopping for DW this afternoon and came home with Little Ceasars "pizza pizza"
That pork shank and crab cake sounds better!:

Ellen, great update. Thanks alot for all the food porn. Now I'm hungry. I'll have to get out of bed and get a snack. thanks. J/K!

How funny that your boys were so tired! They must have had so much fun during the day that they were just tuckered out! What a problem huh? I can't wait to hear about your first pirate party!

awesome!

Sooo, I am confused.... you had trouble finding your hubby at the door when your table is THAT close to the front of lumiere's????? Now, really tell the truth.. you were still in the shops weren't you!? Just kidding! I totally know and am sympathetic to the "skirts twisted" aspect of that as its happened to me more than once!

The one thing I regret the most was not buying more of the sale itmes in the shops - we only discovered the sale racks late in the cruise... massive bummer!
