Fred, Wilma and Family do Disney - Day 14

Fred, Wilma and Family do Disney Day 14 – A sad day indeed

Thursday 24th April

Today we were leaving – normally, I am absolutely heartbroken when I have to leave Disney World. Usually more so when, as was the case this time, I don’t have a future trip planned or booked. However, today, I wasn’t quite so sad. Whether it was because this particular holiday had been overshadowed by the in-laws and the little problems we’d had along the way or whether it was because I was ready to go home I wasn’t sure of. Either way, I wasn’t quite as upset as usual.

The same could not be said for Daniel – the poor little chap barely stopped crying from the moment he got up to the moment we stepped through the front door at home. He just didn’t want to leave – and, of course, I could sympathise because I knew that feeling all too well.

We checked out of Old Key West early and headed for Downtown Disney, to check in for our flight home. We had used the Downtown Disney check-in once before, on our very first trip, and it is great knowing that our luggage is gone, we’re all checked in and we can enjoy our last day.

We had decided to spend the day at Downtown Disney and do some last-minute shopping. Once we were all checked in, we took the car up to the Marketplace parking lot and went our separate ways, after arranging to meet up for an early dinner at 3:30pm.

Gary, Daniel and I explored World of Disney and Once Upon a Toy.

This was followed by an early lunch at Cooke’s of Dublin, where Daniel had mini sausages and chips and Gary and I shared fish and chips.

We then went for a good look around the Lego store and took some pictures outside.

Daniel really wanted to buy a Cargo plane set, which we had seen on a previous trip, but they didn’t have it. He was quite upset and this brought on a fresh round of tears, which started as disappointment over the Lego but ended up as another ‘I don’t want to go home’ rant.

After he’d calmed down, we went and got some drinks and sat down by the waterfront for a while, just chilling and looking out at the sights. Again, the benefit of hindsight would have been useful, when we realized we were actually getting a bit bored and would have much preferred to be at a park.

We had a look in some more shops, including one whose name escapes me where I saw this beautiful castle which was on sale at the bargain price of $37,500

It was almost 3 o’clock by now so we took one last look around the Art of Disney and took a picture of Daniel posing.

Then, it was off to meet the others at Wolfgang Puck Express for our early dinner. Sorry, no pictures here but think we mostly had basic food – chicken fingers, fries and pizza.

We trooped back to the car and set off for the airport. There followed the usual boring wait for the flight, which was completely uneventful but, suffice to say, better than the outbound as it was on time and the entertainment system was working.

We landed early on Friday morning, collected our luggage and said goodbyes to Chuck and Reeny, who promptly burst into tears and declared that they’d had a fantastic holiday. Well, I’m glad someone did Seriously, we did enjoy ourselves but the girls both said they’d had a much better time when we’d gone on our own. Daniel, of course, didn’t know any different and was still adamant that he didn’t want to be ‘back in stupid England’.

We were home by lunchtime, having stopped to collect the cat en route, and the first thing I did was start pricing up another holiday – some things never change!!!

Great report.

Poor Daniel - he has obviously got the Disney bug and I can't see you being able to fob him off with Granny's next time you want to go without him he would be mortified.

Well done, Joh, both finishing your report and navigating the tricky waters of sharing a vacation with people of very different holiday philosoply (people you do need to get along with in your "real" life). I've enjoyed reading your richly detailed reports and bet your other fans will be delighted to finish the journery with you, too. No apologies needed with me for the delay. It took me two months to knock out the reports for a week long vacation. Fun though it is, trip report writing is an awful lot like work!!! You have my appreciation for the good work you did. Hugs, Susan

I've really enjoyed your reports, Joh. Your exploits with the In-laws have made me laugh so many times. Now you can look forward to the fab holiday you'll have with Nat.

I find the hardest part about taking "others" with you on holiday is that I so want them to like what I like and I just can't bear it when they don't. I want them to feel the magic the way I feel it. Each time I try to be laid back but its just not in my nature!! I never learn and we continue to go on holiday with "others" all the time. I guess they must like it or they would not keep coming back!!!

Well done in making the trip work out and it sounds like your in-laws had a great time.

At least you have another Disney holiday booked, ours is just in my head

Oh Joh..... oh no...... I so hoped your inlaw experience would be different to mine! I haven't read the first 13 parts but will now do so - I am sorry that your concerns came to fruition

Still, least you have a new countdown
