T & T do the triple – day 14 A disappointing morning and a great MNSSHP
We are:
Tony, (DH – Tony64) age 44 - in charge of driving, collecting coffee and doughnuts for breakfast, running to get fast passes and generally stressing. This is his ninth trip. Theresa (me), age 43 - in charge of the credit cards and plotting quickest routes to the shopping malls. This is my tenth trip. Maddie (DD), age 19 - jointly in charge of where we eat, shop and play this trip. This is her seventh trip. Callum (DS) age 18 - in charge of himself. This is his seventh trip. Friday 5th September 2008 It’s our last day today and pouring with rain! We can’t really complain, we’ve had very little rain this trip. We had breakfast (chocolate pecan pie and coffee –scrumptious) and then drove down the I4 to Lakeland as Maddie and I were going to a scrapbook convention there. Tony and Cal dropped us off at the convention centre and we went inside, only to find it had been cancelled! I had checked the website before we left the UK and it was all set to go ahead then. We were really disappointed as this is the first time our holiday had coincided with a scrapbook show. We phoned Tony and Cal (thank goodness for mobile phones) and they came back and picked us up and we drove back to Kissimmee. To cheer ourselves up, we decided on an early lunch at the Longhorn. We had a lovely meal there, as usual and all enjoyed our choices. We got completely soaked going back to the car though. The rain was absolutely torrential and Tony said he would go and move the car near to the entrance so the rest of us could just jump in. However, it all went wrong – when he pulled up we all rushed out but the car doors wouldn’t unlock. We were running around the car frantically trying every door in turn, but they wouldn’t open. Meanwhile, Tony was happily in the dry. Finally they opened and we all leapt in, completely drenched and yelling at Tony for locking us out. He swore to us he had pressed the unlock button straight away (a likely story). We turned the heating on and tried to dry out a bit before driving across the road to The Cracker Barrel. We love mooching around this store. We bought a few more little Yankee candles and some orange scented air freshener sachets which reminded us of the bit where you fly over the orange groves in Soarin’. After that, we drove down to Walmart and bought some glow-in-the-dark Halloween t-shirts for a few dollars each (there were no actual costumes, which was a shame), then drove back to the condo. We did a bit more packing, then got ourselves ready for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Tony, Cal and I wore our new T-shirts. Maddie wore her “I believe in Jacob” T-shirt. She wanted to see if anyone got the “Lost” connection and chat to her about the show (one lady on the monorail did). We arrived at The Magic Kingdom by 4.30pm. The rain was just starting to clear up and the evening was soon dry and warm. The Mickey flowerbed had been re-done and was now made from pumpkins and squashes. We had our photo taken in front of it (it’s tradition) then collected our wristbands, treat bags and park maps. It was lovely going in when most people were on their way out. Is it my imagination or do we all look a bit wider than we did two weeks ago? Must be the camera angle. ![]() ![]() ![]() There were some really amazing costumes about, although most people had not dressed up at all, probably because costumes were hard to find in the shops this early in the season. If we went again, I think I would take a costume with me, as I think you get more interaction with the CMs if you do (we got lots of comments, even though we only had spooky t-shirts on). We did lots of the indoor rides, saving the outdoor ones for when it was dark, as it’s more fun, and collected candy in our treat bags as we went around the park. We had tried several months back to get an ADR for Liberty Tree Tavern but it was fully booked, so we had dinner at Cosmic Rays instead as they have a good choice and only a few restaurants were open (ribs and chicken for us, burger for Maddie). By this time it was dark, so we started on the outdoor rides. We did Astro Orbitors and the CM let us stay on for an extra go. We had the smug pleasure of watching a large man and lady make the same mistake as us earlier in the week , trying to squeeze themselves in one rocket (we won’t be making that mistake again, but it was fun to watch other people). ![]() We did Big Thunder, then Haunted Mansion twice. We were expecting extra spookiness here, but it was the same as usual, except the CMs were dressed a bit more scarily. We stopped for funnel cake and coffee at Sleepy Hollow, then found a good spot in front of the castle to watch “Hallowishes”, which was excellent. Next it was the Villains show and then the “Boo-to-You” parade, including the headless horseman which was really good. Tony experimented with his camera and took some eerie shots. A Ghostly outline of the Headless Horseman (to the left of the picture). ![]() Spooky dancers. ![]() There were no queues for any of the rides all evening, and the park had a lovely fun atmosphere. It didn’t matter that we were four adults. We had wondered whether the party was really for families with young children and we would feel a bit silly, but lots of people on the Dis had said it’s for adults too, and they were right. We had a great evening, and finally left the park just before midnight, after taking a few more photos at the front of the park and picking up some more ghirardellis chocolate from the CM’s. (Incidently, we weren’t all that keen on much of the candy we were given in our treat bags. Some of the Hershey’s bars were downright horrible, and it’s not like us to throw chocolate away! I guess it’s a matter of taste though, as Tony took a bagful into work and they all loved it there). ![]()

Sorry about the rain and the scrapbook SNAFU, but so glad to hear the Halloween party was a success. Tony's parade and castle photos are just great--and spooky.
I've enjoyed your trip reports so much, Theresa. I'm really kind of sad they're coming to an end. Isn't it wonderful to have this beautifully written and illustrated record of your fun times?
