When did you let your DD shave her legs?

Ok I made it thru my 15 yo ds now its my 9 yo dd's turn, she told me last night she was too hairy and needed to shave her legs. My husband is not at all keen on the idea, so what age did you dd's start to shave??
And what did you try first electric or blade?

My DD will be 12 next week and started using Nair on her legs just a few weeks ago. I have told her for a few years that when she wanted to and was ready to just let me know. I think when it becomes something that bothers them it is time.

I just went through this. My older DD just turned 12 in June and shaved for the first time for her 6th grade graduation.

I told her if it bothered or embarrassed her then she can do it. She was ready.

I started when I was 7. I was so aware of it and it really bothered me, so my mom gave me a razor and showed me what to do. I finally had electrolysis done last summer on my legs and underarms and it was the best money I ever spent.

I think if it is bothering her it is time.

DD was 11 or 12 - I can't remember exactly. But she was bothered by the hair and wanted to shave. I turned her loose with a blade. I figured that if I survived learning how to shave with the old double edged single blades we had back then she would survive with the better razors available today!

I was 12 or 13. All the other chickadees in my class had started shaving.

My mom wasn't very in tune with girly things going on in that time of my life. She didn't speak of certain things. My BFF taught me how to shave. But I had put it off for weeks and weeks because I was scared my mom would see and I'd be in trouble.

I used a disposable razor.

I don't have any daughters but I remember when I was 12 and wanted to shave my legs like it was yesterday! I am fair and not hairy and my Mom kept telling me to wait! All my friends were doing it and I wanted to also so I didn't listen. She did say, told ya so.

But seriously if a girl decides she wants to its likely that its because she is self conscious of it. Unless she is ridiculously young or has no hair I would let her.

My mom had this whole thing that I couldn't until I was a teenager. But at age 11 I had thick blonde hair that was noticeable all over my legs (gah). Some of my friends made fun of me at a slumber parties so I tried and pleaded with my mom. She still held firm that I was too young. What did I do? I used her razor and did it myself (after consulting some older girls). After a few months my mom noticed when I was wearing shorts that I was no longer hairy and decided there was nothing she could do and bought me a razor.

I guess my point is that social issues and peer pressure will probably drive a girl to do it anyway, or to cover up and feel awful and depressed about her image. I think previous responses about "a girl is ready when she starts to take notice" is the right way to go.

Well thanks for all the reply's I dont think anyone has said anything to her maybe I need to see if the other girls in her class are shaving yet see if its a thing to do right now. She does have dark hair and blondish hair so it does stand out, and she is getting to where she does need to use deoderent for sure thanks

Maybe start with a not so sharp razor. One you've broken in a few times. DD10 has started shaving and the tub looked like we had slaughtered a chicken even with my help. I don't know if she was pressing too hard or what. Now she uses an electric razor for now.

I don't have kids, but I remember shaving the summer before I started middle school. I think that was a good transition into middle school.

My 10yr old DD will be asking me soon - I'm sure!!!
When she had her pictures taken last month, she said she needed to cover her legs because they are to hairy I was so shocked when she said that. I told her that she's a young girl, and young girls have hairy legs - that's okay!!!! But when summer comes, I'm sure she'll ask to shave her legs, and I will let her. I will buy her an electric razor, because the thought of her having a razor with a blade makes me do this

OMG

Girls shaving legs at 10, 11, 12..............

I thought you chaps were decended from the Pilgrim Fathers.......not the Weirwolf Mothers.

Mrs Varkie started to shave her legs around the age of 22 when she started working and had to wear tights (hose) and not jeans.

Hmm, maybe it is something they put in the water in the USA

edit, we both have blonde hair and blue eyes. Until I was 25 I only used to shave my beard every third day.
