Expat Brits go barmy in the World ..... Miami to Palm Beach
After a lovely few days in Miami spent chiiling by the pool, shopping and eating we had to head off to stay with our friends in Palm Beach. She is American and is a travel journalist and he's a Brit and used to work on our island as a tennis pro and we love them to bits - plus they recently got married and we havent seen them for a year.
So we reluctantly say goodbye to the Turnberry and load up the motor which I have to drive about 1.5 hours up to Palm Beach. Notice the fact I am driving - DH (bless his little driving skills) is not allowed to drive in the US until January next year as last year when we were here (again in Miami ready to drive up to Orlando) he tried to kill us all in a big car smash by turning left across a I95 without a green light!!!!!!!!! In the resulting high speed smash up we were hit on my door pillar by a Ford Excursion doing 60 miles an hour, spun round and hit by a school bus just to make it more fun! Result was kids were fine, the carseats did their job brilliantly but I was not - had to be cut out and had a broken shoulder, dislocated elbow, snapped calf and thigh muscles, broken toes, smashed up face etc etc. we still did Disney but I was mainly in a wheelchair and was on ALOT of drugs (shich I might add makes Disney even BETTER!!) and dh was banned for driving for 16 months in the US. Sooooo off we drive to Palm Beach which is GORGEOUS! Nothing like Orlando or Miami, very spacious, VERY luxurious, no strip roads filled with shops and resturants like the 192 or International Drive, more like avenues with shops discreetly tucked away. We stayed in their lovely condo which was on a gated community and had a great pool for the boys which they lived in from morning till night.   they took 4 days off their jobs to spend with us which I know is hard for them so we really enjoyed our stay. Our highlights were the Palm Beach zoo which the kids loved - especially my youngest lad who is animal CRAZY (wanted to get in and cuddle the mountain lion  ), and we had a fun lunch at a 50's diner which did great Reuben sandwiches which I am totally addicted to!our oldest:  the boys with our friends:  bird show:  50's diner:   after an amazing few days, wonderful food and company (dont know if they thought the same after the boys annihalation of their condo!!!) we were dreading the next stop ....... the Nickleodeon Spongebob Hotel in Orlando ... I say WE were dreading it and I mean me and the DH, the kids were obviously HUGELY excited, but I'd read about this place on Tripadvisor and was not looking forward to the noise and madness ....... Disney it is not!let me tell you!!!!! |

very impulsive, which doesn’t bode well for our credit cards! They don't call me "Clever Claire" for nothing!

 to your car crash last year. I hope you have fully recovered.It sounds like you had an amazing time with your friends.

You were so lucky with the crash last year, glad you're fine now, I don't think you ever told me the details of it and it sounds horrendous!!!!
Sounds like you had loads of fun with your friends, how sweet of them to take time off to share with you

How scary must that have been for ALL of you,so glad that you were all alright
 .That condo looked lovely.You're youngest reminded me of my Dd3 who is also animal crazy-recently we went to the Zoo+she wanted to get in with the Gorillas+give one of them a cuddle 'because he looked sad'.x.

I keep trying to convert everybody, but they just don't want to be converted
I can only get a tag if its near the weekend. a monday, tuesday and some wednesdays are definately no tag days

I was so shocked to read how awful your car crash had been for you. I know it could have been worse but you must have been in so much pain and must have been so hard to carry on with your holiday.
Love the photos of palm beach. its great to see some new places. thanks for sharing susan

but actually it was very painful and extremely tiring, luckily we booked 10days at Disney last year at the WL which was fortunate as we could dip in and out the parks and not rush.a year later everything is healed although they will eventually operate on the elbow which came out worse than they thought. but hey - is there a better place to recouperate than WDW?
