Hi Fantasia! I love Mackinac Island too, though I only get up there every few years. I also enjoy the Charlevoix and Petoskey area. Ludington and South Haven are favorite destinations on the west coast. Gee, thinking of all these places makes me want to pack a bag and travel right now.

I found a recipe for Macinac Island Fudge online. I made it and it's really good, although it would be twice as good eating it while walking alone the porch of the Grand Hotel...

We were supposed to have a family reunion this past August (it fell thru) up north and Macinac Island was actually the only thing I was looking forward to! My DH's favorite movie is Somewhere In Time.

If anyone wants that recipe, it's easy and yummy...I'll post it if you want it.

Hi disney_queen!! That's one of the reason why I love Mackinac.. their fudge! If you don't mind, if you could kindly post the recipe here, thank you so much!!

Somewhere In Time is also one of my favorite movie. I own the dvd and I watch it from time to time when there's nothing good on tv. I just believe Christopher Reeve is gone though.. Jane Seymore is still looking good after all these years!

Anyone else would like to share where their favorite places to visit here in Michigan?

Let's hope this isn't an isolated announcement.
outstanding news!
i wonder if it will be in Troy - there's a call center there now...
what used to be ameritech's yellow pages call center i think..
so maybe they're expanding that....(on big beaver road, east of somerset)..

yes, the indian call centers are pricing themselves out a bit...plus the quality just isn't what it should be..
plus it ticks people off big time when they get an overseas call center..

i bought some books from amazon in june and there was a shipping problem...
i called amazon and right away realized i was speaking with an overseas call center....
when things weren't exactly going well (they weren't taking care of the problem), i asked the CSR what country i was speaking with and she stupidly answered honestly - the phillipines..
i went ballistic....and i mean ballistic....they had already given me the run around and then i heard i wasn't speaking with the states..
well it turned out to be a good thing...because i was soooooooooo angry, they immediately took care of the problem and refunded the shipping costs to me..

but they've lost out anyway...i won't buy from amazon again...not until they move their call centers back to the US...

I just discovered a perfect gem of a place last month -- Frankfort, Mich. The sunsets are absolutely gorgeous -- best I've found outside of Sanibel Island.

Hello cabanafrau I forgot to add to my favorite places in Michigan, it's Frankenmuth. Fugde is good there too! We like staying in Zhender's Splash Village. They have an indoor waterpark. It's nice that they have a lazy river and an area for And while at Frankenmuth, we also visit Birch Run where the outlet stores are.

Anyone else have any favorite places to visit in Michigan? I would like to see Holland in May. They have Tulip festival every May.

You know, I was going to bring DH and the kids to Irish Hills last month just to go to Dinosaur Gardens. I looked online and saw that it closed. That was sad, it was part of my youth that I wanted to share with the kiddies.

Hi Fantasia! Nice to meet you!

My Michigan faves are Charlevoix, Frankenmuth, Mackinac Island and Grand Rapids. Also love a nice drive through Hines Park for the fall colors.

Last time I went there the mosquitoes were bigger than the dinosaurs!

I'd love to share it with you! Here is the website I got it from:

http://www.thatsmyhome.com/fudge-rec...land-fudge.htm

and here is the recipe:

Mackinac Island Fudge

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups confectioners’ sugar

1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Mix milk, butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar and salt in heavy pan. Cook at medium heat until boiling. Boil exactly 6 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract and confectioners’ sugar. Beat with mixer until smooth and thick. Add nuts, if desired. Pour into a buttered pan and freeze 20 minutes. Cut into pieces.

Makes approximately 1 pound of fudge.

Peanut Butter Mackinac Island Fudge
Reduce butter to 1/4 cup and add 1/2 cup peanut butter.

Chocolate Mackinac Island Fudge
Use basic recipe, adding 1/2 cup cocoa with the confectioners’ sugar.

I don't know what the original would taste like, to me there is no other kind of fudge except chocolate fudge.. I like to add walnuts, too.

Hope it turns out for you!

I miss Niki's pizza, OPA!!, and Mexican Village... We have one day to ourselves when we go up for Thanksgiving, how can we fit all of that into one day???
