Tell me your "How we surprised the kids" stories!

We are going in September with our boys who will be 12, 10 and 6. They know we are going to Disney and we talked about doing a cruise but told them we decided it was too expensive. So we will get there Friday night, plan to do parks all day on Saturday. Sunday we have Ohana breakfast and head to port. Trying to figure out how and when to tell them. I'm so excited that I could burst so hopefully I can keep the secret until then.

Are you driving to port or taking the bus?

The plan is to drive because it's cheaper, but I thought the bus may help with the wow factor.

you could let them know you are going to Cocoa Beach for the day and let them know they can change clothes when you get to the beach. The highway goes right next to the terminal where you will see the ship. There is a sign that will even say the Disney Ships name. You can ask if they want to get a closer look of the ship real quick before heading on (Cocoa Beach is like another 5 miles), and drive into the port entrance where you will can stop and off-load the suitcases.

OR, on the 45 minute drive from WDW, you can have Mickey Call and tell them they are going on the cruise. You can sign up for that at the DisneyCruise.com web sight.

I was wondering the same thing. We are planning our trip and want to surprise them. We are traveling from California so I don't know how to surprise them with it.

i recommended to CWNHOKIE that they drive up and tell them. Primarily because they will have already done WDW and they might not expect if the play the Cocoa Beach thing.

If you are flying, you will probably be flying into Orlando? Are you going to the parks?

I would tell the kids at the hotel room Sunday morning when they get dressed or immediatley after breakfast, and tell them to change into their bathing suits because you will be riding the Aquaduck this afternoon.

I changed all the luggage tags on our suitcases that morning in the hotel. When I asked the kids to grab their suitcases, they noticed the tags and sail date. They were ecstatic!!! They still say they loved the surprise my kids were 10, 8 and 6.

They know we are staying off site for a couple nights and then transferring to an on site hotel. So they will expect us to be packing up, just won't be expecting a cruise in between.

Now I'm thinking maybe we should stay onsite though and get Disney transfers and surprise them when we go out to get on the bus? So many options

Yes we are flying

I'm pretty sure if we told them we were going to the beach they would be on to us as soon as they saw the port.

Originally I was planning to just wait until they saw the boat and figured it out, but it will be nearly impossible to get good video that way.

you can get the phone calls from Mickey and/or Goofy. Make the calls early and then they can get the calls. Then hand them the luggage tags and ride the Mickey Bus to the terminal. Wake them up with the call, lol. And you can video them finding out.

I'm thinking about doing the call, that way I will know when to turn on the camera, LOL. I just scheduled a call so I can listen to it and see what it says first.

Can you post a link? I'm curious.

We're also surprising the kids. The kids know we will be going to WDW for DH's Marathon. So we'll drive towards Orlando. But, we'll go first to the 3-day cruise (surprise!) and then after we'll go to WDW. I was thinking about waiting until they noticed we were not in Orlando and then hand them like a boarding pass or maybe try to get them to play Hangman and have it spell Disney Dream. We'll drive the night before, so they'll have time to get "used" to the idea of going in a cruise ship.
