Do You Wait Up For Your Teen To Come Home?

I do, that's why I am here. Even though I am tired I just can't go to bed. I don't fall into a good sleep and a part of me is waiting to hear the front door, I would rather just stay up. What about you?

Yep. When they got older, they are all in college now, I got to where I'd go to bed and sort of asleep, but I'd know I wasn't going to really fall asleep until everybody was home safe.

Yep, and I haven't really gotten used to my oldest living elsewhere. I find myself waiting out of habit.

No, not since she turned 18 and started staying out later. I do now sleep with my cell phone nearby, and leave it on all the time. DD left for college today, and I told her my cell phone will be available should she need to call!

My mom waits until I get home. Sometimes she's usually half asleep. When I get home, I make sure to talk to both of my parents, and my dad normally wakes up.

I always wait up....with the scanner on, minitor on and cell phone on & turned up. And he's told to stay off one particular road on the way home from his best friend's....hill/curve with no guardrail and a few deer, not a good mix.

I used to not be able to fall asleep. After a few years of college breaks (with long nights), I finally broke the habit. But I do still have the cell phone on the bedside table - even though both of them are out on their own now.

During Thanksgiving break one year, my younger son called my cell, waking me up, at 5:00 a.m. I was really confused, kept saying "Shouldn't you be in your room, about 5 feet from mine, by now?"

I am waiting now for my 15 year old. She is babysitting and the parents went to the Counting Crows/Maroon 5 concert!!! I wish I was with them.

All of her friends are now getting their drivers license and I haven't been able to let her go out with a new driver yet. She is getting very upset that I keep saying "No" but I just can't imagine waiting up for her when some young/new driver is bringing her home. I know it will be coming soon but I am not ready yet

Ha.. I'm 29, but when I go home to CA to visit, my mom stays mostly awake until I come crawling in at the wee hours when I've gone out with friends.

I'm 22, still living at home for the time being, and my parents still wait up for me. Drives me nuts a lot of the times, but i know they do it out of the goodness of their hearts and because they love me.

A few years back, my family went on the disney cruise and even I couldn't fall asleep until my sister walked in... at about 1 am. I have NO idea what her friend and her were doing, but i was really worried since she's yonger than me and it was SUPER windy on the top deck... I know the chances are slim to none, but i kept visioning her flying off the top deck and it drove me crazy... no way could i fall asleep till i physically saw her climb into bed.

guess that's the older protective sister in me.

Absolutely. The latest I had to stay up is when she went to the Midnight showing of "The Dark Knight". I stayed up until 3:45 am until she got home even though she was with friends of our family.

When DS wanted to ride with his friend before he got his license we talked to the driver, threatened the driver....well maybe not threatened but firmly let him know we wouldn't put up with his crap the way his parents do, and told DS if we ever heard or saw his friend do something stupid while he was with him he'd be done forever! And the first several times it was day time things like driving to town that is only a little 2-stop light town, home from school, or to his friends house. I have an advantage that I have a scanner and have EMS, Fire, town police, county police.....and it's habit now to always listen with one ear to the traffic on it.

I've never been able to fall soundly asleep until everybody's safely home. I will admit to dozing in the recliner though, while I'm waiting.
