Talking Do you have odd/funny or just plain Housekeeping horror stories?

I thought it odd when we came back from a long day of sightseeing (in northern MI) to find Housekeeping not only happily took their envelope with our tip in it but they took our two bags full of our empty pop cans!! We had purposedly put the two sacks near our luggage and not even near the little trash can under the sink/counter.

Not that we really needed the $8.00 in cans.......we just thought it odd. I could understand if we left them when checking out of the hotel but we had another day to go.

What I complained to the office about though was the fact that Housekeeping failed to leave an extra toilet paper roll, didn't exchange our empty Kleenex box, didn't leave a new plastic sack for ice, nor the next morning's coffee/sugar and cream. No coffee in the morning set me over the edge!!!

All the person had time to do, I guess, was make the two beds, leave a couple of clean towels, empty the envelope of our tip $$ and reach over our luggage and things to grab the two sack full of cans.

In all my hotel stays I have never complained ever about Housekeeping so really my track record is pretty good.

On a side note: I'd stay at this hotel in Mackinaw City again in a heartbeat.

OK, your turn.............

A few years ago we were staying at the Polynesian. We went to breakfast and left our camera and backpack for the park in the room right next to the door. DH went back to get the bags to find the "mousekeeping" lady in the bathroom, with the door open, doing #2. Dh grabbed the bags and ran out of the room. I don't know who was more embarrassed DH or her.

I was going to say that once I let the bathroom stay so wet for a week that a mushroom grew in the corner, but I guess that's for a different thread.

Once I stayed at Pop Century with friends - we had adjoining rooms. During the night, my friend's daughter got a nosebleed (she is prone to them) and bled all over the sheets. When we got up to go to the parks, we pulled the sheets off the bed but left them in a ball on top of the bed.

When we got back that night, very tired, and my friend's daughter started to get into bed, she found it had been made up with the blood-stained sheets. This was not just a little blood, it was quite a lot. She was grossed out and upset.

We called down to Housekeeping and told them what had happened. The person said that all the Housekeeping people had gone for the day and there was nothing that could be done. Finally we persuaded them to send some clean sheets up to the room and we'd make the bed up ourselves. The person was VERY reluctant to even do this.

I just don't understand how someone can make up a bed with bloodstained sheets like that! There was no way you couldn't notice. What were they thinking?

Well, my cousin was getting a shower, and there were no bath towels (the big ones). Someone knocked at the door, and kept knocking. He thought that it was his parents, becuase the door opened. He peeked his head out of the door, and there was a Maid there! She said, "Towels?"

Similar story, but at the Poly in the Hawaii concierge building.

It was our first day. We crawled into bed late. The beds were all made up and although the room did have "that" smell, it looked clean.

DD and DS4 were in the bed by the slider and DS10 was in the day bed. All the kids had crawled into their beds and promptly fell asleep, so no tucking in that night.

We awoke to DS10 saying "GROSSS, DISGUSTING" as only a 10 year old boy could say.

Upon investigation, DS4's little cherub cheek was resting on a huge glob of green snot that was on the pillow.

Further investigation found 3 blister packs of prescription medication on top of the TV (for cold and flu symptoms) and a half empty bottle of an over-the-counter flu remedy in the trash can. No mystery where the globule of snot came from.

So, rather than changing the sheets for the new people coming into the room, Mousekeeping had just made the beds of the previous tenant right over the now dried, half-dollar sized goober of snot on the pillow. There is no way they could not have seen it.

And whether coincidence or not, three days later, DS4 came down with a 103 temp and cold and flu symptoms, followed by his sister that was in the same bed. Totally ruined our 10 day trip to Disney and wasted a ton of money.

We checked out of our DVC unit, only to realize after about 5 minutes that we had forgotten something in the room. I went back in to find 3 housekeepers sitting at the table eating the remainder of a cake we had left in the fridge.

It was fine with me...I was actually glad that it wasn't going to be thrown away, but they were all upset. I reassured them that we didn't care of they ate it as we weren't able to take it with us and were glad that it wasn't going to waste. I don't know if they are not supposed to do that or what, but they seemed very concerned that I was going to rat them out. My opinion...I assume they are entitled to a break, and who am I to deny them? What they choose to eat on their break is their business.

Same thing happened to us. It wasn't Disney though. We were staying at this hotel for 2 weeks. We left quite a bit of food when we checked out. I forgot something, and when I went back to the room, the housekeeper was checking what was still good so she could take it, I assume.

She was horrified and scared that I would tell on her, but I was so happy that someone could eat the rest, as it was still perfectly good.

I have one that's not really a horror story. When we stayed at CSR in March, there was a sudden pounding at our door. It was housekeeping and I let her in, she ran to the phone, punched in like 2 numbers and hung it up much relieved. She ran out of the room patting my cheek and saying that she loved me. My niece was rolling in laughter by the time she left.

The night before we left on our Honeymoon at the CBR, we came back to our room to find out Mousekeeping had helped themselves and sampled all the fudge that we had bought to take home. We had gotten one of the boxes where you can pick out 6 flavors (or is it 8?) Anyway, we had only eaten a small amount and what we did eat, we sliced off using the small knife they give you. We found the box open with a fork resting inside of it with half the fudge gone. We called down to the front desk, told them what had happened and a manager came up and used something that allowed them to see whose key card opened the door that day. They then asked the maid who had cleaned the room that day "did you eat their fudge?"

Her answer? "I can't remember"

We stayed at CBR last November. I printed out those cute envelopes for Mousekeeping that everyone here on the Dis talks about. I was so proud of myself, and DD's couldn't wait to use them.

1st day, they didn't take the envelope. And didn't leave any more shampoo or soap. The second day, we were completely out of shampoo(yes I use the hotel shampoo and don't pack any).
Soooo I took the $$ OUT of the envelope and left it with a note for more shampoo.
2nd day, no shampoo, but they took the $$.

We were there for 6 days, and they never left us any shampoo. DH finally "lifted" some off their cart one morning. They also never took their tips, envelope or not.

I work as a Housekeeping Inspector at a nearby timeshare. I try not to go into Inspector mode when I go on vacation, but so far haven't had any bad experiences.

On the flipside: I could tell you some stories of how rooms have been left by nasty vacationers.

I will say that many hotels and resorts have Inspectors and they are ultimately responsible for that room. Depending on the hotel, Inspectors will even check daily service rooms to make sure everything is clean and amenities resupplied.

What I love most about my job is meeting people from different places.
