Regarding the DVC questions on the email show...

I just listened to the info regarding a caller's DVC questions. We bought into DVC last fall. We own at AKLV and have loved every second of it. We did buy the minimum at that time which was 160 and received a bonus of 160 developer points. We have found this amount of points to be very good. We go several times a year and have not had a problem with having enough points.

Developer points are special incentive points sometimes offered when buying through Disney. We bought DVC in June for AKV Kidani and they gave us developer points to use at SSR since Kidani wasn't open yet. These type of points are restricted, we can only: use them at SSR, use at Disneyland resort, or trade them into interval. We cannot use them for other resorts. Also, they expire within 1 year. We live all the way in Alaska and could not afford to go for another trip so soon, so we are selling ours on the boards to help offset DVC costs.

I'm still surprised that they have the 100pt buy in going on right now...especially after they increased the minimum from 150 to 160 pts not that long ago. It was a smart move though as it has allowed a lot more members to join and will probably generate quite a bit of revenue to help with the many DVC projects that are currently under construction (or in the planning stages).

Wow - when I bought, the minimum was 190 for a price of $13,500. I never even thought they would ever drop it below that. I can understand dropping it to 160 or even 150 as prices rose, but down to 100 - things sure have changed!

I would have great difficulty buying/trying to figure out how to use only 100 points. I'd constantly be borrowning from the next use year. I even had to increase my stash to 250, because of the way we use it!

I think DVC is worth every penny if you plan on going multiple times every year. Of course I'd just rather move to the Orlando area, but that's just me...

We bought the 100 AKV points as an add on to our 160 at BCV. Now we can't decide if we should travel more often, stay longer, or do the 1br......

I don't think that DVC dropped the minimum point buy-in. I believe it is still 160. Of course, if you go resale, you can buy any size.

Disney is selling 100 points at AKV. $500 down and like $124 per month until paid off..... Or you can just pay the whole thing up front!

It's a temporary incentive for purchasing @ AKV and could end at anytime.

I'd do it ..IF I could get "Founder Status" for CRV/Kingdom Towers (If indeed that's not urban legend about pts purchased in CA giving 1st crack at Grand Californian Villas...)

Well...I guess in a round-about way you would because new properties are always offered to exisiting members first. It's usually a short timeframe before it is offered to the general public. There's some awesome incentives going on at the Chicago "Doorway To Dreams" store for their one year anniversary that gives the normal incentives plus DCL cruise or ABD tours based on the amount of points purchased. Anyone you on the fence that can travel to Chicago might want to check it out.

Oh Nicole...
Not trying to hijack... just interesting in general re:DVC offers

It's implied (stated!) in this http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1891509 DVC Operations thread that those who purchased points through a Disneyland (California) DVC Office get "Founding Member" Status for GCV, giving them first crack BEFORE even the rest of DVC exisiting members, THEN the general public. Hmmmm.... If this is true, I wonder if there's something similar that would apply to CRV...

I feel like a veteran DISer...conspiracy theories abound....

(Not to mention 2 more posts and I'm at a Thousand, bay-bee.... Better make 'em GOOD!! )

I would be really surprised if they did that with CRV (which is now BLT - Bay Lake Tower). Do you know how many existing members would seriously be up-in-arms if they did? There are people that have owned since DVC's inception that have been requesting a monorail resort every year...things would get really ugly if they got shut out by a small percentage of new members.

Besides, when it comes right down to it -- GCV is just going to appeal more to westcoast residents and they had to create some kind "exclusivity" to it. I really doubt that many eastcoasters would buy a membership there and use it annually.
