By The Associated Press

The Orlando, Fla.-based company also said it plans to defer deliveries of more aircraft and will cut more capacity.

Sounds like with a few cuts they are ok!

AirTran Airways will cut flights by about a quarter this fall system-wide, including sizeable cuts at its Atlanta hub, as it attempts to streamline its efforts to return to profitability, the company said Tuesday.

http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2008/...ap5265512.html

"AirTran now plans for capacity to fall 7 percent to 8 percent during the last four months of 2008. Previously, the carrier planned for a 5 percent reduction during those months. It currently targets a 4 percent to 8 percent capacity reduction in 2009. Fornaro said the cut next year could be as high as 10 percent depending on the number of aircraft AirTran can sell."

"Correction:In a previous version of the story, the percentage of capacity cuts was reported incorrectly."

The 25% was wrong.

I am sweating my Spirit flight more than my Airtran flights. We love to fly airtran and have never had an issue. I think all airlines are losing money right now.

One of the reasons the airlines themselves are worried is there comes a price point where leisure travelers stop flying and business travel stops. BUT the airlines need to try and cover their expenses and make a profit so that is the tricky part. The airlines are anticipating a big drop in leisure travel in the fall.
