??? - driving time, stops, etc ... March'09

Hello

We have been going to WDW every March Break for the past few years and the same thing is true for our upcoming trip. I teach so this is the only time we can travel (summer would be WAY too hot for dh and for one of my dd's!!).

Anyways ... my thought this year is to have dh, my two dd's, my mom and my dad, to all drive down a week ahead of me to have a whole week extra. I could fly down on the Saturday morning and fly home the following Sunday. Has anyone ever done this? I've never flown alone, but I'm thinking I will be brave (heehee )!!

I just looked at flights down through AirTran (which we flew last year) and it would be $300 pp EACH way ... that is a lot more than last year. We also wouldn't have to worry about renting a van as we'd have ours with us!

So how long does it take to drive down? Which way do you usually go? Is there a better route if there is bad weather? I'm thinking two nights of stopping ... sound right? Any suggestions on good places to stop?

Any tips I'd love ... time to start planning the March'09 holiday Yayy!!!

As for me flying ... used to fly WJ before we tried Buffalo this year (but I don't want to drive to Buffalo by myself) ... who else could I try? Air Canada, who else?

Thx ...
Kerri

My family and I always take Interstate 75 and for us we take 2 and half days to drive down, because we don't like to rush. On our 1st day of driving we go all the way to Cleveland, Tennessee and the 2nd day we stay in Valdosta, Georgia.

What route would you be driving? I can give you a very detailed breakdown of the drive down I 75 with stops for gas and stops for breaks etc.

They would likely drive the 75 route I think. I would like to know a good place to stop that has a nice hotel and good pool for the kids to unwind a bit after driving for so long. They will likely eat at mostly Cracker Barrels or the such ... wish I was going with them

I just hope the drive won't be like the drive for so many on the March Break this past year!!

If you want a great place to spend the night you can't go wrong with a Hampton Inn because their rooms are always very clean and in the mornings they serve an amazing continental breakfast.

Well for us we leave in the evening then the kids all sleep through the night and we arrive in GA for the AM and get the kids up. We then feed them breakfast (we bring an electric cooler) then make a tea we also bring a small travel kettle and a poer inverter for in the van. We get everyone dressed and fed and let them play. We then load up and head to the bypass around Macon and stop at teh rest area there for lunch and let the kids play. From there we head to Valdosta at teh bottom of GA only 18 miles from teh GA Florida state line. We always stay at the Fairfield inn in Valdosta great rates via roomsavers and a very good free breakfast in teh AM.
