I'm sure any that any you post I'll love. Of course the views are awesome to see, but maybe if you have any that are specific to the trip - the rooms, the bus, meals, that sort of stuff that would be really cool.
Thanks.

OK, we're on it. I know we have shots of the coach, and I think we have at least one shot of each room, although I recommend going on the web sites for the hotels if you haven't already. They do give a pretty accurate description of the hotels. I think we have some shots of the food. There are LOTS AND LOTS of pictures of rocks and canyons, I must say. But we'll try to pick some photos that will be interesting. The big question is: is it very obvious how to post pictures, or do I need someone (say hello???) to walk me/DH through how to do it? Do you use the "insert image" tab at the top?

Thanks for that tip. We found the thread. DH spent hours yesterday going through all the pictures, trying to weed out duplicates and generally making them more user friendly. I spent the same time packing up the DDs for a few weeks away at camp, and we're driving them today, so I can't promise the pictures will get posted today, but we will get some on this thread really soon.

What time did you arrive in Grand Junction, and how long did it take to drive from Grand Junction to Denver? We're going in September/October, and I'm thinking about driving and whether we'll need to stay over night in Denver or if we can make it in time for a flight back to Seattle that evening.

And by the way, thanks for this amazing narrative! We booked so long ago that the enthusiasm was sort of flagging, and this now has me back in total countdown mode! Just about two months before we leave!

Glad you liked it. It was pretty fun to write too.

We got to Grand Junction at about 10:15, maybe a little earlier. It's not that long a drive, maybe about 90 minutes, and they budget 2 hours. We had the car reserved for 10:30. We had a hard time saying goodbye to everyone, so it took awhile to get inside to the Hertz counter. The airport is SMALL, so everything is very close together.

If you google map or map quest the drive from Grand Junction to Denver, it tells you the drive takes 4 hours. I think it's something like 260 miles, of which literally 230 is on I-70, where the speed limit is 75. If we had driven straight through, I actually think we would have gotten there in less than 4 hours, but we stopped in Vail for lunch. That was a good place to stop by the way, because it's very nice, there are a lot of options and it's fun besides which. Also, Vail is more than halfway to Denver, so it meant that when we got back in the car we didn't have that far to go. Of course, if you're trying to catch a flight, you might not want to stop at all. The Denver Airport is pretty easy to navigate, but budget time for rental car return, etc.

It's a great drive, much prettier than we had expected, and it makes re-entry easier, at least it did for us.

You will have a wonderful time.

Also, I apologize for not getting pictures posted. DH has been away for most of the week. We'll get some stuff up, I promise!

I'm checking everyday - even though I'm subscribed and get e-mail alets! But I've tried to be good and not bug you....
I guess I loved your day to day reports so much I can't wait to see the pictures. In a little over month I'll be in your shoes though, just back and much to do. We go back to school (I'm a teacher) less than a week after we get back. Our trip is 8/16- 8/23 but we are staying a few days extra on our way and in Denver.

I'd love to know - what are your kid's impressions of the trip now that they're back?

Thanks,
Tammy

I am so glad that I found this thread. Trying to talk DH into this trip. He is SO NOT a Disney fan, but is dying to see the Grand Canyon. Doing this ABD would be wonderful for me, the family trip planner. Really lookng forward to the pics......

I understand your predicament exactly. My partner is afraid we're going to have characters escorting us everywhere -- not his idea of a good time! But, we're going in September.

There is another trip report thread (actually five) with many fantastic pictures. You may have discovered it already, but here's the first one.

Also, Deb Wills of All Ears.net wrote a great day-by-day blog last year when she went on this tour. It's here:

Good luck in overcoming that wall of Disney-resistance!

There is really very little that is "Disney" about the trip, apart from some special Disney magic touches, the special Disney level of service and stuff like that. No characters, a few Disney movies on the coach, that's basically it. Tell your significant others that it's basically a very good tour company called Disney, which means you get the Disney happiness. It works for me!

Tammy, the kids talk about the trip every day. The photo pass link arrived earlier this week, and we've been combing through the pictures, comparing them to the ones we have and deciding what to get to complete our set. There are a lot of shots we didn't have, and some terrific ones of Tiffany and Geraldine, plus a few I remember taking with their cameras! Brought it all back. We know the 2009 tours and dates are being released on August 1, and we're ready to check them out. In other words, the kids can't stop talking about what a great vacation it was. They've been in touch with the kids from our tour, and the grown-ups have been in touch too. We're still sad that it's over, but the memories do stay with you.

And yes, Say Hello's trip report (all 5 installments) does have great pictures. But I promise we will post some......one day soon!

Talking

Hehehe. I was going to jump in here & pimp my Trip Report, but I see DaddyBrady & cindy18 beat me to it! Thanks so much, you guys!

Pamjb & DaddyBrady, cindy18 is so right! The trip is *not* "Disneyfied"; there's no character meet & greets or anything of that nature. Just an extremely capable, professional company with very capable, professional and fun-loving guides working for them. I can hardly wait for August 1...

Nor can I! Somehow I've gotten the partner past the "Disney" fear, and we're already planning on Sacred Valleys and Incan Cities (Peru) next year with his parents. We won't even have gone on this year's tour and will be booking for next year. Since we're taking my parents to Walt Disney World for Food & Wine next May, it's going to be an all-Disney year for vacations.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Chris, who was one of our guides for Southwest Splendors is also doing the Peru trip this year. He really had wonderful things to say about the itinerary, and praised the tour. I'm still in a "See America" mode, but he made the trip sound very tempting!

Traveling with your parents, eh? You're very brave!
