Can I wear black to a wedding?

The only 2 dresses I have that fit are a black with white polka dots and a maternity dress that is blue. The maternity dress is not flattering but fits okay. But I just don't know if the black is okay. Is it? It's a 2:00 Catholic wedding. In N.C.

Help!

YES!! I posted a similar question recently and got a resounding vote of approval. In fact, I attended a wedding a couple of weeks ago, and there were quite a few women there in a black dress (including the mother of the bride and the groom's mother). A friend of mine had been to a wedding the weekend before and said that she saw lots of women in black dresses there too (she had wanted to wear one, but her DH talked her out of it - I think she gave him a hard time over it when they got there! ).

I personally wouldn't b/c it is an afternoon wedding (I would and have to an evening one), but since it has polka dots, it may be alright. Do you have a nice skirt and blouse you can wear? Or a nice blouse and pants (NOT capris - EW!).

We had a wonderful time, but did have our moments!

Pretty much down to my hips on one side, but nice and perky on the other

In NY it would be fine, but that's probably a regional thing.

You will be fine. The majority of guests wore black to the past several weddings I've attended.

Absolutely fine. Those old rules for colors at weddings are out the window, EXCEPT it's still not okay to wear white, unless you're the bride. I'm wearing a black sundress to a wedding in a couple of weeks, but brightening it up with aqua and turquoise jewelry and metallic shoes.

Yes - IMO, black is almost always appropriate.

Sure. I'm in NY and we always wear black to weddings. The polka dots make it sound a bit more casual so I think it would be good for an afternoon wedding. It didn't bother me that my MIL wore black to my wedding(making a statement, maybe, lol) but it burned me up that my cousins fiance wore an off the shoulder white dress. I got her back though. I wore my wedding dress to her wedding a few months later......................just kidding!!!
