split stay question (vacation home and villa)

The family i am going with next yr will most likely not be going back for a while because of the cost for 7 people. That being said, they want to get the best of both worlds so we were thinking about a split stay

We want to go for 9 nights and were thinking about doing a split stay between a condo in windsor hills and a 2 bedroom villa at OKW or Saratoga Springs
They really want to stay onsite but 9 nights on site would cost around $4200 whereas 5 nights offsite adn 4 nights onsite would cost about $2800...thats a lot of money

Has anyone here done a split stay btw the condo rentals and teh villas?
We were thinking about doing the rental first and than onsite. Would that be good or should we do it the other way around?
Also, our party is going to be 3 adults, and 4 kids ages 11,8,5 and 3...which would be better...OKW or SSR?

They have never been before and i have never stayed offsite or in a villa so im completely lost on this. Any advice would be awesome

If there is ANY chance that the Disney part of the trip will turn into a package, then you should do that first. That way, the tickets that you buy as part of the package can still be used when you move off site. With all the special deals that Disney as been offering recently, that is certainly the way I'd do it. In 2006 DH and I stayed 5 nights at POP with free dining, then moved to a Fairfield Inn for 6 nights. We continued to use our KTTW for admission to the parks when we moved.

Off site may not be quite as 'magical' but you'll still have a ball.
