Do you tip the Directv installer?

When we got Dishnetwork 2 years ago, the installer was talking about all the tips he gets. We never thought to tip. That day we didn't have any cash on us, so we didn't tip. Today we are switching to Directv and I'm wondering if we should tip him. Do you????

I've never tipped the cable person or anyone like that. I think I pay enough for their service as it is......... I might offer them a can of soda or bottled water for their trouble, but I don't think you need to tip him/her.

Hinting around for a tip is a great way to ensure you won't get a tip from me. And you now won't be offered a drink or use of my bathroom either. I am sick unto death of this tip-entitlement attitude so prevalent in our society. I am paying for the installation and so NO, there will be no tip.

Are you kidding? Of course I don't tip an installer. I do make sure pets are secured, everything is ready...so the job goes quickly.

Hell no! Even if you get it back as a credit on your bill, you are paying for installation. I think that guy was hinting for a tip, but probably doesn't get tips from anyone. I would have told him, if you are getting below minimum wage and need a tip, find a different employer.

I only tip my cable guys if they do me a favor. If my husband has a special request and they do it I tip them.

When we moved and had extra dishes installed and had him run a seperate line to the Master bedroom, I did tip the Direct TV guy $100. He was here most of the day and in the heat of the sun so I felt a little bad he had so much work he had to do.

We tipped our DirecTV installer $20. It was a rainy day in late December and we had a wiring problem that he had to call in to figure out. He was her for hours. He arrived about 8:30 am and left at lunch time. When we handed him the money we told him to get lunch on us on his way to the next job.

No, I don't tip the directv man. He was hired by the company to install and run some wires. He's being paid very well for it. I don't see why I have to pay him extra, when I'm already paying for it.

It's not like he's a waiter that makes $3 an hour.

I'm not against tipping -- when I feel the need. But in today's society, tipping has gotten completely out of hand.

I tip mousekeeping, they do a great job and leave towel animals.

I tip the trash guy a couple of times a year (not necessary, but he goes above and beyond what he's supposed to do).

I tip very well in restaurants, I was a waitress and I know how hard it is.

I tip the baggage handlers -- I could carry my own suitcases, but I choose to let him, he deserves a little something.

I tip the movers. They're lugging heavy furniture, back breaking work, up stairs, off trucks, they deserve a little extra.

I don't tip the mailman, although I will make him cookies at Christmas. They aren't really supposed to accept money anyway.

I don't tip the bathroom attendant -- I really just want to pee in peace, and I didn't ask for their services.

I don't tip at the convienence store, even though they've put out a tip jar.

I don't tip at Dunkin Donuts even though they put out a tip jar.

I DO tip at the car wash, again, hard work. low pay.

I don't know why I tip certain people/professions, but not others. It seems like everywhere you go there's a tip jar. I mostly ignore them.

Yes we did. He did a job above and beyond what the average guy would have done.

Also don't tip... If the occasion came up that they worked really hard for really long, I'm sure we'd consider it. We usually make sure the installers get some soda/water while they're working.

Poor guy, he had to work to do his job, how horrible!

I must be a really bad person because I have never tipped the installer, even when he had to dig a hole to install the dish. Guess I thought that was what he was getting paid to do. Funny he didn't act like he needed a tip, didn't say he was underpaid, just did his job.

Based on what some are saying the installer should have tipped me after I moved everything on the TV, in front of the TV and moved the TV so he could install a HD dish and THEN he checked and found out we couldn't get the HD signal because of trees.
